Do you think high-end fashion can be functional?

Our creative-process begins when high-end fashion has a functionality. Andrew, our copywriter, had a question 'Can there be a T-Shirt that I could wear during the day but also wear when I go out that will express my creativity?' That is the design or function of the product. After the function of the article is determined Shih- Shun, our head of design, gives form to the T-shirt. Salmon skin became the material and the colors black and white. The end result is an 'Icelandic washable salmon skin trim T-Shirt'. To do this socially we need to communicate with our customers. Someone asks, 'How can fashion be pragmatic?' and DAMUR solves it. This is how our collections are born. We want fashion to complement, support, and empower our life.

The design imperative of our reversible bag was: Make a leather bag that could be carried in the rain. Imagine you walked into a Café on a clear Spring day. While you drink a Latte Macchiato dark clouds suddenly gather and it pours. "Damn!" you think to yourself, "I took my leather bag." Instead of waiting out the rain you can turn your DAMUR reversible bag inside out. The rain is no problem now!

DAMUR is a fashion brand determined to make high-end fashion pragmatic and functional. Many companies today value transparency and communication with their customers. This movement is now coming to the fashion industry. We push it further.

DAMUR offers a new alternative in the fashion industry. Mostly, designers can be insulated, at DAMUR we are very open. We want our faces seen and our voices heard. Based on a strong connection to people, DAMUR is a fashion brand with an original approach in the fashion industry.

What is DAMUR? — Fashion by people

With our vision for this brand, where interested people can become part of the creative process, we look into the nature of DAMUR, ... 'surreal pragmatism'. Plainly said, connecting things that are usually separated. We need to wear clothes but we also need to dream. In respect to our fashion it results in unique clothes that are practical. Our one-of-a-kind creative process is inspired by surreal pragmatism. As a result we have an endless amount of ideas. Some of which are being worn today.

In the beginning the DAMUR team was only two people. Today we have grown to nine members with an international multi-culture background. We have professional experience in fashion, textile, art, design, film, photography, marketing, communication, IT, and management.

How do we do this?

Our team-members are from everywhere in the world, with different backgrounds and different ages. However, we all agree on one point: Fashion is teamwork, an open field for discussion and creation, sharing ideas and listening to each other. That's what motivates us to develop DAMUR every day. We strongly believe that the creative process should to be open. Why do we need a social fashion brand?

Today, when we talk about how much we despise mass-production, a major problem is the terrible working environment and low wages for the seamstresses.

Yes, we do read a lot about it in the news or reality TV shows almost every day. Yes, we do have more and more fashion companies who have a transparent production process. Yes, we do have the ECO fashion trend and brands growing year by year.

So, what exactly is helping the fashion industry become more human? Unfortunately we don’t see any idea that is actually working, ... yet. So that’s why we decide to create a very first “social“ fashion brand—DAMUR.

So what exactly does the DAMUR social fashion platform do?

1. If you are interested in fashion and have internet access you can register for the DAMUR social fashion platform. 

2. You can participate in the process of fashion (i.e. the creation of a product) from the very beginning. 

3. You are free to share your ideas, opinions, inspirations and to communicate with members of the DAMUR social platform. 

4. In the DAMUR social platform, we open up and share information, experience, and network with each other. 

5. On our social platform, you can easily follow DAMUR and collaborating companies for a better fashion/creative working environment.

6. We promote qualified production companies, suppliers, tailors, designers, photographers, etc. and we grow up together.

About DAMUR’s social platform

To close the gap between the brand and its customers, we had to include the customer in our creative process. For managing this process we use elements from Agile software development methodologies. We find it smarter than traditional fashion business development methodologies. With our social platform we selected suitable tools which support those methods. DAMUR is currently using Trello to manage all internal communication, including our creative process.

On Trello we can easily have discussions about our projects, be more efficient and pragmatically organize our daily tasks with all the team members. If you are interested in our creative process, please check out Trello it self and have a glimpse at one of our boards.

DAMUR mainly focuses on hand-made products by people, who love to see clothes come alive and be the result of their craftsmanship, not a machine. We are going to multinational facilities in Europe and looking for small manufactures. The know-how of these manufactures is incredible and deserves to be preserved. We wish to integrate these small producers and let them grow with our brand.

We produce clothes for both women and men of all adult ages. We have selected textiles of the highest, most durable, quality. Utilizing a process called lamination, we reinforce them in order to make the clothes that empower. Our leather accessories all have that special DAMUR glare. That can compliment anything. DAMUR is a fashion brand determined to make high-end fashion practical.

I’m trying to improve my work each day as much as possible, because personal dedication and quality of the finishing brings beauty and harmony to my surroundings. I have been in the production business for 25 years. Before I became a tailor, I was controlling the quality of ship construction. However my passion for clothes was stronger than my studied profession. Now I’m 65 years old and I still believe the garments that meet our desires through the joining of design and technique, helps us to realize how beautiful we are inside.
