PROMOUVOIR LES CAFÉICULTEURS INDÉPENDANTS DE COLOMBIE EN PÉRIL

My name is Bastien, independant living in Colombia for 8 years, passionate about adventure, coffee and motorcycle travel. Some time ago I was able to receive and accompany friends visiting Medellin. As often at the end of the stay, they wanted to take away a typical souvenir. Colombian coffee is obviously a great classic, here we go in search of the holy grail. My friend Jeremy, a great connoisseur and consumer of coffee, therefore asked me to take him to the place where he would have the most choice. Unfortunately I explained to him that this place does not exist despite a lot of research ... So certain supermarkets or small shops sell a few packages from independent producers but nothing exceptional and no serious offer ... Later and after a long investigation, I realized that Colombia does not currently offer any reference or range of independent coffee growers present in its territory. Yet the demand is real, so faced with this situation and this feeling of frustration, living in the land of coffee I decided to investigate. It seems incredible but in 2021 there is still no organization or company that has referenced these independents in order to offer their production. And yet, Colombia exports 90% of its production via a few big brands which hold a monopoly on purchasing prices and distribution, leaving producers no room for maneuver. These coffee growers are therefore neglected because they produce too little to interest these industry giants or who do not wish to comply with purchase prices that are too low. It is therefore a whole world of discovery that opens up to coffee lovers, a unique adventure in search of independent local producers. My decision was made, I would go on a motorbike over a period of several weeks to find and meet these families of operators that no one echoes. My goal, an eco-responsible approach favor organic farming help and give visibility to these families neglected by big industry list the most producers and coffees discovered on the road introduce the new and future great cafes of tomorrow select and offer the general public a selection of unknown, exceptional and unique coffees I therefore suggest that you accompany me in this ambitious project and go on an adventure over several weeks through this territory as large as 3 times the size of France.
