AFRICA DISPORA, Voyage au Sénégal pour entrainement de Danse Africaine

My name is Katia de Arruda, I am a Brazilian dancer and dance antropologist. I recherche and practice African and Afro Brazilian since 2008 when I still lived in Brazil. In 2017, I arrived in Europe after being granted a scholarship for the Choreomundus - International Master in Dance Knowledge, Practice and Heritage program. I am starting this crowdfunding to make a trip to Senegal to take part in the Africa Diaspora Training at Ecole de Sables, Germaine Acogny's dance school. This will be a 10 weeks dance training between May and July 2022. I have been selected to be among the 30 dancers from Africa and it's Diaspora that will be offered this trainning. I had already the opportunity to travel to West Africa, in 2012, for Guinea, for one month and a half for a dance tranning with Fanta Konate and her family. In 2016, to be a volunteering teacher during one semester at the Gambia Academy, Sona Jobateh's music and dance school for children. And finally twice in 2018, to Senegal for the fieldword trip of my master. As a black descendent from African people that had been displaced to Brazil, this trip to Africa represents a lot for me. This is more than the ocassion to study cultural aspects. It is the opportunity to connect with my ancestral roots. This long term training is also the opportunity to improve a lot as a dancer and acquire new dance techniques skills. At the moment I life in Toulouse, France, where I work as a dancer and dance teacher in a cultural association called Amanita Muscaria. For more than 20 years, this association promotes Brazilian music and dances, as Maracatu, Coco, Afoxés and Ciranda with music, dance and percussions classes and artistic perfomances in Toulouse, France and Europe.
