ANGELMAN : the first super hero

Angelman is about a little boy, Arnaud, who discovers while getting to know his mysterious neighbor, an elderly man calling himself Mister Angel, that he is the first superhero to have existed, now forgotten and leaving a peaceful life. More than just a story of science fiction and superheroes, it is a story of friendship between an elderly person and a young child, and a whole dynamic of transmission that we are not necessarily used to seeing on screen. It is both a story that children will be able to identify with and dream about, as well as an unusual friendship that will interest even the oldests of us. Originally a book that marked my childhood, the idea came to me to bring this beautiful story to the screen with real sets and actors almost two years ago. In order to consider a short film, I had to acquire the rights to adapt the book via Flammarion, the publishing house that now handles the rights to works published by Sarbacane, the original publisher of this book, which came out twenty years ago. After obtaining these rights, I wrote the screenplay and put together the entire production file for the film in order to apply for assistance from the National Film Center. The commission, chaired by Romain Gavras, gave a favorable opinion and granted a subsidy to the project amounting to 25 000€. MOODBOARDS AND INTENTIONS Movies about children facing a huge discovery have always fascinated me, as well as superhero movies. Angelman is the perfect opportunity to mix the two, it's a story that appeals to all of us as children. Matthieu Roussel's illustrations play a big part in the influence this book has on me, and I'd like to stay true to them. Aesthetically speaking, the interior decoration, the multiple accessories as well as the light will allow to recreate this so particular atmosphere. I would like this short film to have the same effect that the book had on me as a child, with very atmospheric images and a memorable original score that make it a cocktail that can be dreamed up as a modern tale. The idea is to create a visual tale, in a universe like E.T/Goonies, in the vein of 90's adventure movies. Here are some moodboards, inspiration boards created to give you an idea of the desired atmosphere in the different settings: THE TEAM I graduated last October from a Master 2 in Cinema at the Sorbonne. I've been creating videos on the Internet for six years, a virtual world where I've been able to build a community of one million people on all platforms. I seriously started directing two years ago, through clips but also different short formats, and I created my production company a little over a year ago. You can find all my work by clicking here. After having carried the Angelman project by myself for many months, it was time to build a team and to convince professionals to join this adventure. Stéphane Moucha, composer for cinema and television for more than twenty years, will be in charge of the film's original music. A real asset for the film, you can find out more about him here. The main role of Arnaud will be played by Léon Durieux, who is currently starring alongside Louane on TF1 in the series Visions. After meeting him, I knew immediately that he was perfect for the role and to carry the weight of this story on his shoulders; to learn more about him you can click here. In addition to the people I usually surround myself with for my projects and with whom I am used to working, I had to be supported by recognized professionals for this project of a considerably larger scale than the previous ones. So, after having approached people by presenting my project, I was able to convince major profiles in different fields and the whole technical team is being formed little by little, with names that I cannot mention here for the moment but that I will not fail to share with you in the coming weeks.
