he artbook Douceur was born during the first confinement. In difficult times, art can bring sweetness to the everyday. So I created a book, to flip through, to look at, to leave open on a corner of your table as a breath of sweetness when you need it.
The origins of the project
As a freelance illustrator/storyboarder, I am used to working directly with people who propose their projects in my store in Angoulême. I work mainly with Indian ink and brush in a minimalist way. Inspired by femininity, Japanese art, black and white photography and animation, I develop a simple and soft universe. During the first confinement, the project of an artbook came back to my mind: to create an art object that feels good.
Having much more time, I started by making my own Indian ink, in order to have an intense black and original illustrations less "chemical". I selected my softest brushes, and let them express themselves on a smooth paper, without grain. As a result, a whole series of illustrations came out that made me feel good, which I wanted to group under the name of Douceur.
During the conception of the book, I made the choice not to retouch the selected illustrations, to keep them as close as possible in color or texture to the originals. Its small and thin format (65 pages and hardcover), also allows you to take it with you or to leave it open on a table, what's the point of putting away books and only seeing their edges? This mini art book will easily blend in your decoration!
In the counterparts I would like to offer sweetness at all prices! Whether it is to offer or to offer itself! The autographed artbook, limited edition prints from the book, an email of sweetness to change your wallpapers it's up to you!
By supporting this pre-sale, you will allow us to offer this book to a larger number of people and help to realize a larger first edition.
You also support a 100% French production because these books are printed in France.
Why don't I have my artbook published by the classic network?
The publishers being overwhelmed and overloaded with requests these days following the confinement, I decided not to participate in this overload for them. I would also like to be able to quickly publish my project in the current events in which it was thought and created. Strong of my previous experiences in self-publishing (4 books for children including 1 financed on this platform) I wish to renew the adventure with you!
