Baraka Ship - The quest for mystical vibes

A few words about "Baraka Flims"  :

Since 2010, we are producing climbing and extreme sports films.

We have distinguished ourselves from the standards of the genre by the creative aspect of our productions, and a very particular approach to writing, in which music and pictures are very intricate.

For two years we have received a dozen international awards in mountain and adventure film festivals, including the Banff festival (National Geographic) price for creative excellence.

Here is a small sample to better understand our work :

The idea is to tell stories in music, to choreograph and dramatize the material whether or not it has an initial musical feature (e.g. the highway in this extract).

A move can become a dance, a word can become singing, and silence makes sense.

The music of our films is written from sound samples found locally in the various cultures that we encounter during our travels.

It is in a logical sequence that we start today the research of new material across Europe, along the Danube River, for a period of 7 months.

Why the Danube?

This is our attraction to the music of Eastern Europe and Balkans culture that led us to this choice.

The Danube is the second longest river in Europe. It stretches over 2500 km, across 10 countries: Germany, Austria, Slovakia, Hungary, Croatia, Serbia, Romania, Bulgaria, Moldova and Ukraine.

As a unifying element between peoples, it represents an unusual way to deal with the countries and to conduct our investigations.

Of course, the idea is also to highlight the life of the river, its importance, and the people’s uses and lifestyles that make all its richness.

Why a boat trip?

Unlike our previous filmings, this time we will do the whole process of creating the film onsite: tracking, shooting, music writing, video editing and post-production.

The boat is the key to meet these work steps: in addition to its function of moving and transport of audio-visual materiel, it offers all the requirements for the installation of a "home studio". 220 V + solar panels + battery = autonomy :-)

Moreover, the slow pace of the boat, and the tranquillity of the river provide an ideal setting to let talk inspiration and creation. They also encourage meetings and links that we’ll create.

Two bikes will allow us not to limit our investigation to single perimeter of the river.

Again the boat will give a different perspective about the countries we will cross.

Who are we?

Mathilde Biron:  I am a trained social worker, and recently graduated in social and responsible economy. For 2 years, I accompanied Baraka Flims ensuring administrative and dissemination and communication management around movies.

For my skills in project management, I am in charge of organizing the project’s in an administrative and logistics point of view, as well as its funding.

A first experience in video framing the Petzl Roctrip Argentina gave me the taste for composing and capturing images.

During the trip, I will make a part of the picture taking.

Vladimir Cellier:  After studying music at the Conservatory of jazz, my interests focused on music composing and the laws of harmony.

I then began working as a "sound designer " for a theater company and developed a desire to shape both the sound and image.

I then got myself into video editing, focusing my work on synchronization between images and sounds. Then I met pro climber and cameraman Julien Nadiras. Together, we created "Baraka Flims".
