Centre de réhabilitation et d'éducation à Byumba (Rwanda)

Hi and welcome to you all who have taken a bit of your time to visit our KissKissBankBank page!

Here's a little presentation of our team and of our project of building a Center for the Rehabilitation and Education of children and young people in need in the city of Byumba, Rwanda.

First things first: Who are we?

We are a team of five 19 year-old Scouts living in Antony, France, and we are members of the association UNISvers, that we have created in order to make this project (and others eventually) happen! For more information on our association, you can visit the link below (sorry, it's in French):https://compasiconpotes.wixsite.com/monsite

From left to right on our 'Inside Out Emotions' picture, we have: Antoine, a student in fine-arts in Angers, Manon a student in Theology and Humanities in Paris, Anna a student in Economics and Management in Paris, Anouk a student in Engineering in Montpellier, and Helen a student in Maths and Physics in Paris.

In July, we went to Rwanda for a month with our Scout association and in partnership with the bishopric of Byumba and a group of Rwandan female scouts. There, we worked on two construction sites to build houses for families in need, and in the afternoon we played with children living in the streets of Byumba to liven up their days.

For more details on our previous project and on us, you can also visit our blog at http://compasiconpotes.over-blog.com/ (it's in French but there are many pictures so feel free to look!)

This previous project was the starting point of our new project for which we are now here. Without further ado, let's talk about what we're all really here for:

What's our project?

During our stay in Rwanda we have, as we've already mentioned, spent our afternoons with fifteen or so children living in the streets of Byumba. For different reasons they live alone and don't have a roof, and because of that they can't go to school. We have grown very fond of them, which is why we have decided that we will try our best to continue helping them. Thus, from our love for these children, our project was born.

Here are some pictures of the children so you can also start falling in love with them!

We have real artists and they are proud to show you their creations!

One second before the disaster: a kiss on the cheek!

Donati and Benjamin our proud of wearing our Scout uniforms!

Our goal with this project is to help the younger children so that they can go back to school, and for the older ones to learn a manual job, so that they can be a part of the active society. We believe that education is the most powerful tool we can give these children!

That's why we are launching our project of building a Center for the Rehabilitation and Education of the children of Byumba! We have prepared this project with the same partner as for the old project, Father Alfred from the Bishopry of Byumba. First, here's the view of the Center from above:

And here are the plans:

As you can see above (or not because it's in French), this Center will consist of four different parts:

The western part is constituted of différents rooms enabling the young people to learn a variety of manual jobs, and will give them enough knowledge to start working independently. Next to those rooms, there will also be counters enabling them to sell their products directly from the Center.

Another part with the dormitory and the refectory. The dormitories will be used so that the children an sleep there until we find a family for them. In the meantime, they will also be able to go back to school!

A conference room where they will do meetings to raise awareness on the importance of education, or other important themes as this one

There will also be playing fields (basketball and others) so that they can relax and foster the solidarity between the children, as well as a music and a computer room, so that they can try other activities that could get them interested.

That's the end of our global presentation! We hope that you've become interested in our project, and that you are now motivated and want to become yourself a part of this project! Without your help none of this would be possible!

Allocation of funds

Very good question, the collected money will be sent to Father Alfred our Rwandan partner, and it will be used to buy the equipment, material and the manpower necessary to the construction of our Center for the Rehabilitation and Education of young people in Byumba!

The manpower will mainly be constituted by volunteers and young people from the streets, who want to prove through this project that they are capable of working as well as others. However we will still have to pay a few professionals to supervise the well-being of the construction site.

Moreover, you must know that the 7130 euros we are asking for, will not be enough to build the whole center. Indeed, after discussing with our partner Father Alfred, we have decided that we would build the center little by little. Which is to say that we will for the time being only collect the money necessary for a part of the center, and as soon as we have it, launch the construction of the this part of the Center. Indeed this is simpler and more effective than waiting until we have collected the whole sum needed for the entire Center. Father Alfred used this technique when he built a school in the region, and once people saw that that project was getting real, they were more eager to give money!

That's why we have decided to begin with building the dormitory for the children, because this is what we think is the most urgent part, with a sum of 3000 euros that we'll be used in order to build the foundations of the dormitory. Those foundations should be finished by the time it's Christmas 2019, if we all put our hearts to it! For the entire dormitory, we estimate the cost at 41 520 euros, so if the collected money is bigger than the sum we are asking for, don't worry it will be put to good use!

The money for this project will entirely be managedby our association UNISvers and our Rwandan partners the bishopry of Byumba.

Here are the estimations for the dormitory, sorry if it's in french...

Now it's your turn to shine! And become an active part of this projet! We are waiting for you, because without your help, this project would never be able to live on!
