A documentary on Tibetan exiles in Dharamsala in India. In the meantime, this film needs you more than us. Do you need an explanation ?
IN FEW WORDS
Tibetan refugees forced by the Chinese government to leave their country. Here, they are trying to build a new life.
In May, four students will go there to make a documentary on the lives of Tibetan refugees in Dharamsala.
THE STORY TELLS
This documentary aims to be a dive into the identity of the city of Dharamsala and its inhabitants. It is built around an idea of encounter: that of a people and a culture. The goal: to address this issue of refugees who, despite the loss of their identity, are trying to rebuild a new life, alone, far from their families and 1200 km from their homes. The discovery of Tibetan culture through its architecture, its art, its way of life, its sharing and its tolerance will feed the subject throughout the film. The documentary will recount life in this warm and deeply human city, in which songs, prayers, meditation rhythm the days. Today in Dharamsala, political refugees, orphans, oppressed monks, all those condemned to flee their country are trying to regain their freedom. The documentary will immerse us in an atmosphere: that of life in Dharamsala. It is not intended to be an unsustainable complaint from the lives of its refugees, but rather a story of new life, positive and encouraging.
THE HOPE OF A MEETING
When we met Namgyal Samdup, director of the Tibet office, we discussed the possibility of a short interview with his holiness about the 60th anniversary of his exile. This event, which is widely covered by the international press, is perfectly in line with our subject. Thanks to the support of France Tibet we have made an official request and hope for a positive response within the next few days.
FEW THINGS YOU NEED TO KNOW
10 days of adventure in the heart of Dharamsala. We plan to visit the various associations of former prisoners of war, the official Tibetan school of Dharamsala, the Institute of Tibetan Art, the various monasteries...
We will sleep in the monastery located at the entrance of Dharamsala in MCLeod, Ganj welcomed by Tibetan monks.
Our local contact is called Tezin Rabygal, he is part of the association storiesoftibetains, he will guide us during our trip.
Partnership with FRANCE TIBET
We met with Marcelle Roux, the President of France Tibet. Interested in the project, she gave us several contacts on the spot with Tibetan refugees who would be willing to share their experiences. She shared with us her story, her actions and invites us to join her at the gala in honour of her holiness the Dalai Lama on December 10 2018 to meet Tibetan exiled people and exchange with them. We will also be at his side on March 10 2019 in Brussels during the demonstration for the 60th anniversary of the Dalai Lama's exile to capture the first images of our film.
Meeting with Nathalie FUCHS
An experienced documentary filmmaker, Natalie recently moved to Dharamsala to make a documentary entitled Kalachakra l'éveil des sens. She agreed to receive us to discuss her project, the difficulties she had experienced and the meetings she had had.
Allocation of funds
By participating in this common adventure you are helping much more than a film to come to life.
You are contributing to the emergence of an original and indispensable debate on our relationship to immigration, respect for human conditions and the value of listening, respect and resilience.
In this way, you become an essential link in transmitting these ideas and reflections around you and in our society. With the aim that as many people as possible can discuss it, whether with friends, family, at the coffee machine at work or even why not in middle and high school classes. The management of the prize pool is managed by the Reflet Production association.
IT IS NOT OVER !
Thanks to your participation we will be able to go there, rent additional equipment. Go to the monasteries on the outskirts of Dharamsala.
The film does not stop at the journey, it is also necessary to count a part for the post-production, the recording of additional music and allow us if we have the means to hire a professional composer.
WHO ARE WE ?
Alice GUIONNET, Director
Passionate about cinema and theatre since a very young age, I am now moving towards documentaries. After a summer spent in India and particularly in Dharamsala, I want to go back there to film this city, these refugee inhabitants who offer each individual a beautiful lesson in resilience
Iris GASTELLU ETCHEGORRY, Production Manager
After having started studying dramaturgy I turned to the production professions. I had the chance to do an internship at the EUP (Etat d'Urgence Production), which made me discover the committed documentaries of Médecins sans Frontière. Thanks to Alice's initiative, I hope to be able to remind you of the importance of capturing images that bring hope.
Vincent BECK, Camera Operator
Passionate about stage lighting and sound in my youth, I understood that my real vocation was in the image in the cinema. Whether in the light, or closer to the camera, in the frame. Documentary offers new opportunities closer to what we experience on a daily basis. That's why this project seems so important to me.
Théo MERCERE, Sound Engineer
Passionate about sound and music, I am in the third year of a sound engineering school in Paris (ESRA/ISTS).
Despite my specialization in sound, I am interested in all the branches of this field, especially since documentaries combine a social issue with a professional challenge that is as interesting as it is enriching for me.
Production association, REFLET PRODUCTION
Reflet production is an initiative of Iris Gastellu Etchegorry, Lily Landecy and Zoé Vlahavas. This self-taught and independent association aims to bring together enthusiasts of cinema, literature, theatre, art and technicians (sound/image) for the benefit of a common work. All three students in the Higher School of Audiovisual Production (ESRA), they attach great importance to an effective group coalition and to serious and meticulous support in the development of an artistic project.
Association, FRANCE TIBET
Association of support & awareness of the situation in Tibet and China: human rights, lobbying, action campaigns. The association is chaired by Marcelle Roux.
