Helping children with Fundacion Bolivia Digna

I will go to Cochabamba, Bolivia (21 July - 17 August) to help children living in some of the deprived communities in one of the poorest countries in Latin America through the Foundation Bolivia Digna. This charity promotes better living conditions and creates opportunities for advancement for people living in poor or marginal conditions through educational programs and social assistance programs but it depends on the support of volunteers and donors. This is why I have decided to volunteer there and offering my presence for a month. I will support the association in its communications but also and above all organise activities for the children such as:

· Organise a frisbee ultimate competition and give prizes to the children;

· Organise a scavenger hunt (free) and give prizes to the children;

· Organise cooking workshops with the children (crêpes to start with!);

Organise an origami class.

Some facts

•50% (5 million) of population are children and adolescents

•7 out of 10 children are victims of some sort of abuse before age 12

•800, 000 children work

•200 children and adolescents live on the streets in Cochabamba

•The school dropout rate in Bolivia is 15%

Fundacion Bolivia Digna helps children that are at risk of becoming victims of physical, psychological and sexual abuse and human trafficking as they lack support to escape the poverty trap. They provide a safe environment for at least a part of the day, remove some of the burden of responsibility and allow kids to be kids, teach and demonstrate values that are at the core of a healthy society and assist with and augment formal education to improve future prospects.
