I GET A KICK OUT OF YOU Frederik Steenbrink, Philippe Maniez, Cole Porter, Big Band In 2022, Encore Music decided to produce a large-scale project with two talents of the jazz and contemporary music scene, Frederik Steenbrink (singer, pianist, author and composer) and Philippe Maniez (drummer, composer and arranger). For this project, they formed a musical ensemble, Big Band style, in the image of the orchestras of the 50's and 60's, varying between very vocal pieces (Torch songs, ballads) and instrumental pieces emphasizing the different soloists of the ensemble. The theme and title "I Get a Kick Out of You" are the result of the artistic and enthusiastic symbiosis between the two leaders of the project, the instrumentalists and their guests. "I Get a Kick Out of You" also echoes the timeless work of the great Cole Porter, who, as a true melodist, applies himself to a vocal style close to crooner or lyrical singing as well as to a lively, even frenzied bebop interpretation. In order to avoid making an album of covers or originals, the two artists decided to mix Cole Porter's songs with original ones, composed in the spirit of the time, in response to the composer's repertoire. The creation of the album brings together 16 young musicians from the Parisian jazz scene, all exceptional soloists. Few albums of this kind have been created in France and we intend to develop this project and the ensemble both on record and on stage.
