Join Me In The Bath - A libre music album needs you!

Music credits for the "intro" video: "Right Plot" by Me In The Bath on the Liquid Soap EP

The detailed news about the funding is to be found in the "news" tab in the menu just above. The original text describing with details the crowdfunding is just below for people interested in it

Here's the quick news for people in a hurry:

Day 2/12: we reached 63% of the initial goal in just 24 hours and 29 minutes thank you so much ! We only need 1.2 "average cart" backers to complete the primary target

Day 4/12: the primary goal is now completely reached and the next level is now "guitar check-up/repair" at 187.5%

Day 5/12: The second level is now completed and the goal is now "a new microphone" at 250%

Day 8/12: The third level has been reached and the goal is now "an electronic drum kit" at 887%

More verbose news (if you need so without time to look at the "news" tab):

* day 8/12: The "new microphone" level has been completed! A big thank you to our supporters. Our new goal is to buy a real electronic drum kit that would replace our toy video game drum controller, and improve much then the quality of the recorded drums on our releases. You'll have to decide quickly, if you wish to help, because the campaign ends Sunday at night CET.

* day 5/12: The "guitar check-up" level has been fully reached! Thank you so much once again! The new goal for the funding campaign is now to replace our microphone used to record vocals, which is a very cheap one, by another model of middle grade that would imply a better sound quality for the recording of the album. Any kind of support are greatly appreciated, even a simple share of the campaign page already helps us really much! We hope that this new goal will be reached as well.

* day 4/12: We reached the 100% level of the primary funding goal! Thank you one million times! The funding goal is now set at the next level, namely 187.5%. We need this money -we called the repair workshop to estimate the funds needed- to fund a complete check-up and repair of our electric guitar in order to avoid glitches in studio recording and even to have it usable for live shows (instead of borrowing an instrument each time we have to play a live concert). Any help is greatly welcome!

Below is the original, as-is, initial description of the funding campaign, kept still and untouched for informational purpose and newcomers:

A free and freed album

Summer Getting Warmer, the next Me In The Bath album should be published on July 14th for the Netlabel Day. It's an open licensed album, and a free download release, like all the music of the project since its beginning. If you support it through our funding campaign, you will have the satisfaction to have contributed to the creation of a freely shareable work that belongs to the history of this scene made of this music that is called "libre" or "free", like it used to exist since its very origins.

A fund raising with modest targets and truly unique rewards

In any case, the album will be made available on internet. But we need a very little help to launch at very small scale the production of what is called "physical supports".

This fund raising must mainly be seen as a mean for the fans to show their fondness for the band and to obtain one or several unique collector items that are true works of artistic hand-crafting and that can proudly be added to a very personal collection:

We will not simply make an industrial pressing of wide market grade CDs. No, each copy will be completely hand-crafted including the cover art, that will be unique to each item.

That's why the goals of the fund raising remain modest: we only need a handful of backers to launch a very short run, and our hopes don't go much further than to refund our huge power batteries budget that the production of the album, started last summer, costs - so it's demanding, talking about power batteries, our toy drum kit controller for video games, that we use to drive software rhythm box by hitting it hard with real drummer sticks !

Please note that it would be a real good thing to go much further than the initial fund raising target, much, much further, several times the amount would be quite good.

A one-man-band that makes noise

Even if there are sometimes some guests on some tracks, Me In The Bath is primarily and since already 7 years the solo project from Nico "Shangri-l" Chartoire (ex Gorbie's Stuff, ex The Kuang...) and it's safer to warn you immediately of the fact that if you don't already know the project chances are high that you do not like this music which is noisy, dissonant, dark, haunted, to sum up filled with madness and sick. But if you love it you'll love it totally as it is proven by the degree of involvement of the audience of the project in various places around the world:

Me In The Bath, for the few previous years, is one of the most recurrent artists in the Top of the "popular artists" charts from the libre music platform Dogmazic (that features more than 55000 tracks); Gabite Haliste, editor in chief of Tout pour le Freak, who interviewed the artist and who included several times his titles on the compilation associated with the magazine, described Me In The Bath as "the master of lofi". Titles from the project have been included in numerous compilations, including several times the annual compilation Necktar and still very recently the Christmas 2017 compilation from the Chilean label M.I.S.T Records. Freemus.net rated "Five stars" the First Birthday Party album published during summer of 2016.

You can already listen to the first excerpts of the album!

Since we are nice guys at Me In The Bath, we use to put some exclusive premiere songs on our YouTube channel and you can already get an idea of what the album will be... The jacket on strong paper from the Deluxe version of the CD and of any version of the cassette are actually made out of cutting paintings on strong paper or soft pastels on the same material. All these paintings and these soft pastels, in the "Raisin" or "Grand Aigle" formats, have been realized over a seven years period, and we will use a computer aided random selection to determine which artwork will be cut for each crafting of a Deluxe or of a cassette.

Then, these unique jackets will be randomly distributed along the postal sends and it will be possible to go for hunting by swapping with other fans around the world to try to reconstitute totally or partially the original artworks, just like with pieces of a puzzle game.

A surprise bonus for the first backers
Hesitating a bit? The first 12 people that will join the funding will receive through postal mail a surprise bonus gift if the initial goal is finally met, and this, on the first days that will follow, whatever reward they will select.

As indicated previously, this fund raising hasn't got an initial goal very high, talking about the amount of money -but the album, recorded in a home studio, doesn't really cost much to produce, either.

The fact that all our supports are hand-crafted allows us to launch the production process since the very short run, with a very modest amount of money. We have to fund the buy of a bit of packaging, of a little amount of glue and paper, of a handful of blank media supports.... All kinds of things that cannot be bought individually but that can be integrally funded if the initial goal is met.

But if the funding is a true success, Me In The Bath will (maybe) tool up a bit more comfortably with musical gear... Which could be used for the production of the album, which is still ongoing.

Especially an entry-level real electronic drum kit that can handle "velocity" (roughly EUR 250) would greatly extend the musical palette available to compose... Our dear old Telecaster guitar clone would really need a complete checking by a qualified specialist... And our computer aided music equipment would really need to be renewed, the DAW is eight years old, the sound interface is approaching its... Twenties (!) and we won't even talk about the bass guitar that is outright starting to... Rust :)

Finally, a percentage on the whole amount received, to be determined in function of the gathered sum (between, maybe, two to four percents if the collecting is a huge success, and, maybe, ten to twelve percents if the goal is reached closely only) will be directly given as a donation to the non-profit volunteer organization Musique Libre that acts since almost 15 years for the idea of having music accessible to everyone while respecting international copy right, and without whom there wouldn't be the Dogmazic platform that made much to allow Me In The Bath to encounter his audience -and then, almost mechanically, the backers for this fund raising campaign. They need it and we owe them this right. Outside this voluntary donation, I'll receive personally any funding contribution.

An estimation of the schedule

up to July 8 : composing, recording, mixing ; parallel to the crafting of part of physical supports that does not need the finalized audio (jackets, small format posters...)

from July 8 to 13 : we take care of mastering

July 14 : free download publishing

starting on July 15 : Copy/burning of final audio on each support + rewards sending

A rough idea of the budget

The 6 euros CD costs us, outside workmanship (assumed by the band) about 60 cents to be produced. Shipping and packaging cost in the worst cases (international sending) about 3 euros; shortly our margin is to be located nearby 50%... If you look for the price of a pack of AA batteries, you'll see we can buy about 24 of them if our goal is met only with 6 euros CDs. Which is great, 'cause the album should include a dozen of tracks, and drum recording sessions can easily need a pair of batteries for each track recorded :)
