Justina likes eggs is a dreamlike fiction set in the reign of the absurd, a place where obsession means gain and loss at the same time.
Justina and Clement are a young perfect couple who has moved in together in a Parisian apartment. But Clement will discover Justina's obsession with eggs. This will gradually affect the couple to irrecoverable consequences.
Life as a couple and the complexity of such relationships interest almost everybody. Couples are formed, they break up, they get back together or they simply can’t stand each other. And what we’ve just described has been known or lived by many of us.
This particular project as well as all my other artistic productions, paintings, sculptures, performances or videos have all been marked by the search of identity and the struggle between the inside of a person and the image that she or he is forced to project. The terms inflicted by society in order to become someone and the human urges that reveal our true beings are subjects that have awakened in me more than simple curiosity.
To find the source of such interest within me is a tricky adventure since I’m not completely certain to know where my urges come from. Nevertheless, I can describe the technical and esthetical means that I have considered for this project which can only be achieved on video.
Even if the story begins with tragedy and it’s marked by pessimism, it is only the sacrifice and final death of Clement that allows Justina’s ultimate liberation. It is a tiresome but fruitful path to freedom that needs to be accounted for in the consistency of the image, the sound, the editing and the acting.
Visually, I would like to create a reigning atmosphere of excruciating and suffocating order corresponding to the ideal world where the story begins. Bright and artificial colors over smooth surfaces will saturate the image rending it attractive at first but it will gradually become oppressive even nauseating. The evolution within the fixed framework and the oppressive image will serve as a reflection of Clement’s physical condition that aggravates in the course of the story.
The atmosphere will only change once the Clement’s fate has been sealed. From that moment on, the camera will move far more smoothly and lightly, especially during the dancing scene at the theater that will be shot with a steadicam.
The suffocating feeling will also be rendered by the sound. The voices and other bodily noises will be covered by the background music. The joyful and dynamic music will act as the constant counterpoint of the story leaving very little room for silence. The editing will make sure that the music is synchronized with every scene as to evacuate any moment of contemplation.
The egg is considered as strong symbol that awakens many interpretations in different cultures and has great importance in the global aesthetics of the film. In this particular project, the egg is a valuable image that symbolizes Justina’s interior, her essence and passion that she can’t deny nor abandon.
Emmanuelle REYMOND - Justina
Emmanuelle Raymond, a swiss-french actress began studying theater in Laussane. She then entered the Conservatory in Geneva followed by the École Nationale Supérieure d’Art Dramatique of Montpellier in 2009 under the direction of Ariel Garcia Valdes.
During this time she has worked with André Wilms, Evelyne Didi, Cyril Teste, Sylvain Creuzevsult, Bruno Geslin and Marion Guerrero.
After finishing her studies, she has worked in film, short-film and theater. She now works with Georges Lavaudant in Edmond Rostand’s Cyrano de Bergerac.
Louis BUJEAU - Clément
Professional stuntman, in 2007 he finished his studies at the École de comédie musicale ECM3ARTES where he studied under Christian Bujeau, Pauline Macia, Lucien Calixte, Linda Faoro.
He works in television, cinema and theater and most recently in CÉLIBATAIRES de Rodolphe Sand & David Talbot - COMÉDIE DES TROIS BORNES
Alexandre RABINEL - Frank
Studied at the cours d’art dramatique Charles Dullin from 2003 to 2005. He has worked in cinema and theater. He has also directed for theater and written and directed in films. He has recently finished shooting his next film Les mendicants that will be aired in France 2 this year.
Samuel GLAUME - Nicolas
In 2005 he moves to Paris to study at the cours Périmony where only stayed for a few months before entering the École Claude Mathieu where he graduated in
He has experienced working in many different repertoires that go from French and foreign classic theater to the works of contemporary writers such as Sarah Kane, Harold Pinter and Valère Novarina.
He has acted for the theater under the direction of Matthieu Lermite, Clémentine Niewdanski, Geoffroy Rondeau, C. de La Guillonnère and Jean Bellorini. But, he has also acted in several short-films like Alexandre Rabinel’s Les mendiants and Lou de Bausset’s Stalemate which was shot in English.
Teresa HURTADO - Scénariste / Réalisatrice
Teresa Hurtado is a young Peruvian artist who lives and studies in Paris since 2006. She studied Fine Arts in Peru and then in France and her works account for a constant evolution that has been displayed in many different media such as painting, installations, performances, photography and video but she has remained faithful to her own ideas.
In order to further shape her line of work that intertwines all kinds of visual arts, she decided to study cinema.
She made her first short-film “identité Arrachée” in 2012 and it has since then participated in many film festivals.
She is now working on her newest project: “Justina Likes Eggs”, a dramatic fantasy now in pre-production.
Allocation of funds
The collected funds will cover the fees of the shooting (renting of technical materials, location, costumes and transportations).
- The film will be shot with the RED EPIC camera in HD 4K.
- The shooting will take place in Paris and its surroundings during the first week of July 2013 for about 6 days.
