La Revue Écossaise – Tome 2/6

What is La Revue Écossaise? We're back! After the success of the first issue of La Revue Écossaise, released in November 2022, we're rolling up our sleeves to create the second installment of our uniquely ambitious project: painting a portrait of Scotland in six issues, to show you this nation in a new light. In our first issue, we explored the theme of "What brings us together" and met Scots who extend their arms, Francophones who build bridges, and places with doors always open. In this nearly completed second issue, we've chosen an equally fascinating theme: Scotland as a laboratory. How does the Scottish nation take the lead in the scientific scene? What innovations have emerged in Scotland, and what does the future hold for Scotland? 150 pages and 450 grams of reports, interviews, and debates that will give you the keys to a resounding Scotland, a nation that continues to inspire the world and innovate, but also finds itself in deep reflection. We take the time to explore each topic in depth, following a slow journalism approach, to offer you an immersive, enriching, and unforgettable reading experience. From the front cover to the very last page, with its translucent overlay that left a lasting impression on readers in the first issue, La Revue Écossaise is an invitation to discovery, contemplation, and reflection. So, join us in this exciting adventure and discover Scotland like you've never seen it before with La Revue Écossaise! What can you expect to read in this issue? In the Society section, dive into the world of utopia and innovation as we explore Scotland as a laboratory of progress. Then, discover how this nation is at the forefront of the space sector and explore the city of the future. In the Culture section, explore Scottish science fiction embodied by Harry Josephine Giles, share the thirst for exploration of Robert Louis Stevenson, and delve into the rebellion that permeates every thread of the tartan. In our Portfolio, you will be transported to a playful, colorful, and retro-futuristic universe inspired by Scotland's most iconic video games. It's a tribute to the world of Scottish video games created by a young Scottish illustrator to whom we have given free rein. In our History section, embark on a fascinating journey through the Scottish Enlightenment and follow the epic story of Scottish thinkers who have influenced the modern world. Discover the Scottish inventions that have shaped history and without which we couldn't imagine living, beautifully illustrated by artist Delphine Tirole. In our Travel section, hop on a train for a railway escapade along the spectacular Kyle Line in the Highlands, then head to Glasgow to explore the city through the eyes of its local communities. Finally, breathe in the fresh air and iodine with a hike along the shores of Sandwood Bay in the north of Scotland. Who is behind La Revue Écossaise ? Behind La Revue Écossaise is a team with diverse backgrounds and a solid editorial experience. Four individuals, both French and Scottish, who have been contributing to the Scottish cultural scene and its influence for years: Assa Samaké-Roman, a journalist (RFI, The National, Le Figaro, etc.), author of the book "Écosse: Hadrien et la licorne" (L'âme des peuples) and co-producer of the podcast "Écosse Toujours." Sarah Lachhab, a guide, co-producer of the podcast "Écosse Toujours," author of the recipe book "Écosse: Avoine, haggis & cranachan," and founder of French Kilt, the first French-language blog about Scotland. Paul Malgrati, a lecturer in Scottish literature at the University of the Highlands, translator, and poet, author of "Poèmes Écossais" (2022) and "Robert Burns and Scottish Cultural Politics" (2023). Jean Roman-Samaké, an independent consultant.

Allocation of funds

If all the creative work has already been completed, we have used all the profits from the first issue to compensate our contributors. Therefore, it is crucial for us to succeed in this pre-sale in order to cover all the production costs of the second issue. And to motivate you, we are offering free shipping during this campaign! Faced with inflation and the global paper crisis, it is impossible to maintain the same level of costs for raw materials and services necessary for the production of this issue. However, despite the economic challenges we are facing, we are determined to uphold our values. We want to fairly compensate all our partners and produce our magazine in France, even if it may be more expensive than producing it on the other side of the world. We believe this is important to maintain the quality of our work. That is why we have no choice but to increase the price of the magazine. This price adjustment has been carefully calibrated to be as low as possible, by choosing not to compensate the work invested by the founding team at the moment. Our initial goal of 550 pre-sales will cover the costs of production, manufacturing, and shipping the magazine to all our subscribers across all continents. All our collaborators will be compensated, and you will receive the magazine at your doorstep to enjoy this summer. But we are counting on you to surpass this goal!
