Laurent Salzard "MUNDO" feat. Yann Cléry, Cedric Hanriot & Minino Garay

MUNDO Carried by an acoustic band and a colourful cast, my new album ''MUNDO'' reflects my love of jazz flavoured with music from further lands. The music on this second record features lyrical flights by flutist Yann Cléry, jazzy harmonies by pianist Cédric Hanriot, and rhythmic poetry by percussionist Minino Garay. Three highly talented and world-renowned musicians who bring a communicative musicality, energy and emotion into this project. I play a lot on my new electro acoustic fretless bass, which has a warm and round sound, besides my usual electric bass. Line-up: Laurent Salzard - Basses & compositions Yann Cléry - flute Cédric Hanriot - piano Minino Garay - drums & percussions Motionless travel… Conceived and composed during interludes of forced immobility and uncertainty, back in 2020 and 2021, ''MUNDO'' is paradoxically a musical logbook that would relate travel memories, whether real or imaginary. As if, with everyone isolated at home, we had felt the diversity and richness of the world even more. I wanted to create music that was exhilarating, lively, swaying, mesmerising, poetic and often mystical. I also wished to involve four musicians from varied cultures and influences into this project, to let my compositions travel through their own musical personalities. The 11 original compositions of ''MUNDO'' are inspired by or evocative of several traditional musics (from Latin America, India, Africa...) and breathe jazz with a great deal of improvisation and freedom. The musicians of ''MUNDO'' Laurent Salzard - electro acoustic fretless bass and electric bass, compositions ... that’s me :) Originally from La Rochelle, I moved to Paris in the early 2000s. Since then, I have played and toured with artists as diverse as Brazilian soul-funk icon Ed Motta (as part of his “European” band), the soulful and groovy multi-talented singer Sly Johnson (former member of the Saïan Supa Crew), the vibrant China Moses (true heir to mother Dee Dee Bridgewater), and the tenebrous Lulu Gainsbourg (also true heir to Serge). On stage or in studio, I have crossed paths with Tony Allen, Flavia Coehlo, Bill Summers, Emmanuel Bex, Tristan Macé, Natascha Rogers, Noumoucounda Cissoko, Kankele, Claude Diallo, Pep’s, Maureen Angot, Licia Chery, SoeJoe, Stéphanie Lemoine, Caroline Bugala, Siks Haedo… My first album as a leader, “TIME KEEPER”, was released in 2018 (feat. Martin Wangermée, Anthony Jambon, Fred Dupont and Christophe Panzani). With “MUNDO”, I continue this path as a composer and leader whilst taking a more acoustic route, this time shaped by world music. Minino Garay - Drums and Percussions Argentinian percussionist born in Córdoba and French at heart for nearly 30 years, he is a key figure on the French and international scene: Dee Dee Bridgewater, Maxime Le Forestier, Richard Bona, Baptiste Trottigon, Jacky terrasson, Julien Loureau, Magik Malik, Louis Sclavis, Paolo Fresu, Camille Bertaut... Over 250 albums, including 10 as a leader with projects that blend his own roots with other types of music like ''Los Tambores del Sur'', ''los Frapadingos" or his latest and well received album ''Speaking Tango'' He is the backbone of “MUNDO”. With all of his experience, musicality, originality and creativity, he brought a special flavour to my tracks and to the band. A guardian of rhythm and good taste! Yann Cléry - Flute Guyanese artist based in Paris, Yann is a flutist, a singer, a song-writer and a producer. A musical chameleon who navigates with ease from style to style and has worked with artits like Chlorine Free, Mo'Kalamity, UTH°, Booster & Sandra NKaké, The Jazz Liberatorz, Emmanuel Bex, Jamalski... He created several original shows like ''Visions de Guyane'', ''Witonga'', ''Rythmes Sacrés'' or ''Potomitan'' that always feature the guyanese traditions of music, danse or even martial arts. After ''Motozot'' he is now working on the upcoming release of his second album ''Solo'' which will explore looping, broken beat and electronic music. With his flute, he bewitches, charms the ear, then screams and explodes like a trance-like griot, delivering an inner fire of an almost mystical intensity. Cédric Hanriot - Piano Cédric is a highly sought after pianist on the French and international jazz scene. He has worked with some of his heroes such as Herbie Hancock, Terri Lyne Carrington, Donny McCaslin, Grégoire Maret, Franck Agulhon, Maria Mendes, the Métropole Orchestra... Most notably, he recorded alongside Robert Glasper, George Duke and Gerald Clayton on Diane Reeves’ 2015 Grammy Award-winning album “Beautiful Life.” Alongside this busy activity as a sideman, he also develops his own projects as a leader and already has several solo albums and tours under his belt. His upcoming album "Time is Color" will be released after the summer. He plays with rare harmonic freedom. He’s the kind of musician who gives meaning to the word “improvisation”.
