NIKANOR ALBUM DEBUT

The Band & The Project

Nikanor is a Brussels based, Peruvian band that plays the genre known as Chicha. It is a mix of Andean melodies, with tropical percussions and a rock ensemble. Chicha is really a unique blend. A popular genre in the late 60's till the mid 80's, Chicha is currently experiencing a renaissance in audiences around the world.

This project is to make the release our first full length album a reality! Our music is already recorded, and we say “our music” because they are all original tunes, we need only the final push to put it out there, and for this we need your help!

We come from very different backgrounds. Like all of Latin America, Peru is a kaleidoscope of colors, landscapes, social struggles, dances and of course, music.

In this record we want to put all this into sound! We are all about the things that makes us Latin American. We are aware of the political corruption that consumes the continent, but also our magnificent past, and the concert of cultures that is present in our countries. Our music, food, art and everyday life is a result of these elements mixing and transforming the culture.

And Nikanor is all about that.

Like in any band, we all have our different roots, in our case, we come even from different musical genres! This is all very Chicha, of course.

Marx Sanchez Sosa. Natural of Juliaca, a great commercial city located right there by the Titicaca lake. At an altitude of 3500 meters above sea level, this is the land where all Andean culture once sprang, thousands of years ago. An expert in Andean Wind instruments like the Quena and the Sicu among others. In our band, Marx has performed many instruments, but is his singing and his energy onstage that has made him our leader, making everybody attending our shows dance and move their bodies to the demonic hooks of the classical Chicha guitar.

This brings us to our guitarist, Angel Loaiza, “El Angelito”. Natural from Lima, Peru’s capital, a huge metropolis of 11 million happy residents. This is a town of contrast, 1 in every 3 Peruvians live there, making it a very interesting place to say the least. Angel’s musical roots are the “Vals Criollo” that he heard on endless “Jaranas” as a kid, listening to his parents and friends sing this traditional music from the coast. But having said this, everybody knows he loves rock and roll, as any rat from a big city.

Simply put, the money collected will be used for post-production, and album production. We need to give the music a final mix, and then master it. Produce the vinyls and CD's. In the final mix we will invest around 15%. In the mastering and the master copy 15% and in the production 70% of the total.
