Stained glass artist since 2012, my artistic ambitions lead me to create my own brand of Tiffany stained glass decorative objects, jewels and lights: OVORB.

My workshop is in a "HackerSpace" which is a FabLab type of organization in Chartres. My work reflects the philosophy of the association: sharing knowledge and using technological tools.

My wish is to give to everyone access to creativity and to experience colors and transparencies through stained glass projects.

The campaign goals

To promote an openminded and approachable craftsmanship

The efficiency of geometry was my first inspiration to create luminous and elegant objects.

The way it simplifies the necessary skills makes stained glass approachable: anyone can come to my workshop in BetaMachine and compose a personalized stained glass object, through simple templates.

I am now testing the concept, while attending exhibition events (l’Art est aux Nefs in Nantes, and soon the Artisanales de Chartres), and teaching stained glass in evening classes, during which people can also learn to cut glass and solder the pieces.

I would like to expand the participative aspect of my work. Exchanging is always enriching for both parties : the play of light is infinite and fascinating for all, and with dialogue and different kinds of inspirations, people inspire me new artworks.

To multiply selling platforms

I would like to build a new website and make it more interactive : for example, the customer will be able to easily select different colors and patterns for lights or decorative objects.

Also, once I will have tested my different artworks, the most successful will be copied in series and offered to sell in creator shops (here BonjourBonheur, shop in Chartres, on the left).

INTERACTIVE AND EVOLVING PROJECTS

OV_PENROSE

The Penrose pendants are inspired from the discovery of the eponymous mathematician: the Penrose tiling. Using only two kinds of complementary rhombus-shaped pieces, one can create an infinity of patterns. I cut such pieces of glass and arrange them on an illuminated table, which creates a luminous and colorful game.

Children and adults have a lot of fun moving the pieces, like a puzzle. Then they can take a photo and even order the obtained pattern in stained glass.

OV_PHOTON

I recently created the design of this hand lamp, OV_PHOTON. I had the idea that only a few pieces of glass arranged around a light source can change the decoration of a room. I designed this lampshade to fit tightly around a E27 light bulb, with a standard support. It can be bought alone and easily installed on a standard electrical system. However, I create electrical devices with textile cable that suit perfectly, so that it can be hung anywhere.

A carpenter co-worker, Jordan Burlot, created with me a wooden bracket that can elegantly and easily (just one screw) support the hand lamp.

3D OBJECTS

At first my goal was to create stained glass polyhedrons. Studying this subject, i developed particular soldering and assembling techniques.

In order to create a 3D geometrical shape, i simply assemble the edges of the facets, like with a cube pattern. This principle lead me to use a 3D software: Blender.

In order to make the soldering slimmer, i use an angled grinding head. By accident one day i perfected the result by developing a soldering technique, "invisible solders". The facets angle, assembled in 3D, creates a chamfered corner and spares folding the copper on the pieces of glass.

Using this last method, I created a particularly small cube jewel, OV_CUBIZM. It becomes "magical" when i add a dichroic piece of glass: the colors change by watching through different points of view.

Allocation of funds

OVORB is a passion driven project, a total personal investment.

With the support of relatives and of BetaMachine, I managed, little by little, to buy the materials and tools I needed to start my own business.Today, I would like to invest in serial production in order to contact home decor shops or sell online.

The major goal of this funding is to get one step higher in order to make my business last.

- Materials for 50 hand lamps (OV_PHOTON) : 1125€

- Building an interactive shop online : 500€

- Tools for evening classes : 250€

- Travel expenses and material for events : 400€

- KKBB fees : 224€

When the first goal is reached:

My dream is to be able to acquire a kiln.

It would offer me the possibility to transform glass and create my own materials, using fusing, enamel coloring and thermoforming techniques.
I would also be able to recycle glass (from windows or packagings), and promote an ethically responsable craftsmanship through a recycled labelling.
Finally, I would be able to offer initiations for children (less than 12 Years old): with the kiln there is no need for soldering.

AT LAST, FOR THE MOST CURIOUS, MY CAREER PATH :

First trained and self-taught in arts and graphic design, but aiming for a technical and manual challenge as well as a way to express myself, I finally headed towards craftwork. During a working experience in 2011, I discovered the work of stained glass. It was a true revelation to me, as it mixed creativity and technical skills.

I then trained for a year and got a traditional stained glass diploma in Chartres. As well as teaching me the practical skills for this activity, the class I took was a strong source of inspiration, which I was able to channel by focusing on the grace of geometry and optical games. The American soldering method -Tiffany- offered more possibilities to create, specifically in 3 dimensions. I gradually acquired the experience and tools I needed to start a full time business.

After a while, searching for options to model lampshades, I learned to use Blender and bought a 3D printer. That is when I discovered BetaMachine, a hackerspace, which offered the possibility to use a wide range of tools, from mechanical to technological, and to exchange skills. Finding there the right environment for my project, I rented a workspace.

Here my workshop, a few traditional stained glass artworks (lead), and a special order for an engraving and printing file to use on Plexiglas.
