Romain Mouchel-Mini Transat 2015

Since it was created in 1977, the Mini-Transat has become one of the most famous ocean races. It carries unique values as well as a growing popularity, For some it is the adventure of a lifetime, for others it is a stepping stone into the world of ocean racing.

When you look at it in more detail this transat is more than a race, it is a adventure across the Atlantique, from France to the Caribbean via the Canaries Islands. It is two years of dedication to be as ready as possible on the start line in October 2015. Running a Mini-Transat program is a job in itself with daily challenges to get a budget together and learn all the requiered skills. Making the start line is a victory in itself and after more or less 30 sunsets, the ocean and nothing else for days and 57 degrees of longitude, the first rum on the other side has a very special taste and the man is changed.

The Mini Transat Race is the breeding ground for the world’s top short handed sailors, including Michel Desjoyeaux, two time winner of the Vendee Globe, from France and Dame Ellen MacArthur, 2nd place finisher in the Vendee Globe, from England but also Jourdain, Bourgnon and many others.

Ellen MacArthur, 15e in1997 said: “It is the mini-transat which gave me the taste for Ocean racing. I will never forget”

2014 review

Overall 2014 was a very successful year. I started sailing with the boat at the start of March (training sessions with the defending champion: Benoit Marie) in Palma de Mallorca (where i live for professional reasons). After a month of training I cam second in the Grand Prix of Italie in Genoa, a 500 miles race. I was not able to sail as much as I would have liked during the summer period but I managed to come 3rd in both the Valencia and Barcelona regattas.

Overall: 3 races, 3 podiums

We offer you the possibility to put your name, message, logo, etc on the boat in order to support Romain in the home straight before the start on the 19th of September 2015. Together, let's take on the Atlantic!!

Romain is looking to raise 7,000€ minimum, it is of course not the total budget for the entire Mini-Transat project but it will help pay a part of the fixed costs!!

Mini-Transat registration 2,000 €

Cargo to bring the boat back 6,000 €

Insurance 2,300 €

2 new spinnakers 4,500 €

KKBB costs 500 €

Supplies 1,000 €

Total 16,300 €

This budget is the minimum required to take part in the Mini-Transat in acceptable conditions, it doesn't include the cost of the boat (which I boat out of my own funds), the pre-season races, the modifications made to the boat or to the sailor, etc.

Raising this amount will ensure that I am on the start line on the 19th of September 2015. The amount looked for here is not a high limit so the more we can raise the better. Don't hesitate!!
