Terre Mer is a film about missing, nostalgia and the mutation of our memories. I am a film student in the prestigious film school in Paris, La Femis. As a part of my studies I wish to film my third year film in Israel. This is the first time that Miriam has visited Israel since she left the country for France. What was supposed to be an opportunity to spend a day together, quickly becomes unbearable due to the tense dynamics between her parents. I have been living in Paris for eight years and each visit to my country, to my life before or my parallel life, is a kind of stop in time, parentheses that punctuate my adult life. It is a moment of reflection and retrospective, of reunion with one's family but also of reunion with oneself. The family home and childhood landscapes will always remain spiritual, physical, and mental anchors and lairs to us. We know well that these anchor points are just as precarious as what we create in our adult lives, but we hold on to them otherwise. We want and we need to believe in a linearity and a stability of our past. It is often the distance and a long absence that make it possible to perceive the small changes in these familiar places which, without the perspective, remain invisible. It is this precariousness of time and of the feeling of a “home” that the character of the film discovers. This is her first visit since leaving the country. This is paralleled with the Dead Sea that is increasingly disappearing because of governments and a cosmetics industry that destroys and dries up this natural wonder. Textures and materials have always occupied an important place in my universe. Feelings, ideas, sometimes even random thoughts are often accompanied by a texture. Remembering is always associated with both the texture of sticky mud and that of sand and small stones that sting the skin when the wind is strong. The textures were essential to the writing of the film, to its conception as well as to the choice to film at the Dead Sea. While this moment is dramatic in her life, Myriam does not yet fully realize what she is going through and the film is intended to be calm and quiet. A sort of exhausted calm found in the heat of summer. הצהרת כוונות הדמות הראשית של הסרט, מרים, בביקור ראשון בארץ ומוצאת את עצמה מול פגיעותן של יציבות העבר ושל תחושת ה״בית״. זה הביקור הראשון של מרים בארץ והפעם הראשונה שהיא מבינה שמרכז חייה הוא במקום אחר ושהחיים בארץ המשיכו בלעדיה. במהלך הסרט מרים נעה בין זכרונות למציאות. בין זכרונות שמשתנים, נעלמים, חוזרים ומתעצבים מחדש ומציאות בה היא תקועה במקום בו היא כבר לא באמת נמצאת. בסרט אני מעוניינת ליצור מקבילה בין הפגיעות של מרים, פגיעות העבר וזכרונותיה לבין הפגיעות וההעלמות הפיזית של ים המלח. מרקמים הם חלק גדול מעולמי הפנימי ותמיד עם כל תחושה ומחשבה מגיע גם מרקם מסויים. לזכרון ולשיכחה לרוב מתלווה מרקם נוזלי-בוצי ובו בעת חול אבנים קטנות שדוקר את הגוף עם הרוח. המרקמים הם חלק בלתי נפרד מהכתיבה ומהיצירה של החוויה של מרים ומהבחירה לצלם בים המלח. על אף שרגע זה בחייה של מרים הוא דרמטי מאוד, היא עוד לא לגמרי מבינה מה קורה לה והטון הכללי של הסרט נשאר רגוע. מין רוגע מנומנם של יום מאוד חם. הרעיון לסרט התחיל בביקור אחד בארץ, אחד מתוך רבים. כבר שמונה שנים שאני חיה בפריז וכל ביקור בישראל, בחיי הקודמים, בחיי המקבילים, הוא נקודה בזמן. הביקורים הם נקודות שמפסקות, נותנות נשימה וקובעות את קצב חיי הבוגרים. כל ביקור הוא רגע של התבוננות פנימה, של רטרוספקטיבה של מפגש עם המשפחה והחברים אך גם תמיד מפגש עמוק עם עצמי. הבית, השפה, הריחות, נוף ילדותנו, הם לכולנו נקודות עוגן, נקודות שאליהן תמיד חוזרים, אם זה באופן רוחני או פיזי. זהו עוגן שנראה לנו יציב, קבוע, כאילו לא ישתנה לעולם ותמיד נוכל לחזור אליו. ככל שאנו גדלים אנו למדים שהעוגן הזה אינו הרבה יותר יציב מין העוגנים החולפים שאנו בונים בחיינו הבוגרים. אך אם אנחנו רוצים או צריכים נראה לפעמים שאין ברירה אלא להאמין שעוגן הילדות קבוע ולא משתנה ושזכרונותינו ישארו במקומם וכך אנו דבקים בנטייה להאמין שהעבר הוא לינארי וקבוע שכן הוא כבר קרה. אבל העבר אינו פחות דינאמי מן העתיד והוא נבנה ומתפסל כל הזמן מחדש. כשחיים רחוק מהנוף שבו גדלנו ומחומרי גלם מוחשיים, ״קבועים״, שיזכירו לנו מי היינו, או מי אנחנו חושבים שהיינו, אנחנו נתפסים לזכרונות. כי זה כל מה שיש. זכרונות שיוצרים לנו עוגן אבסטרקטי בחיי היומיום במדינה זרה ובתרבות אחרת. זוהי היעדרות ממושכת שהרבה פעמים מאפשרת פתאום לראות שינויים ותנודות זעירים בנוף ילדותנו ובזכרונותינו שללא המרחק היו נשארים בלתי נראים.
