The Moving Cycle Adventure
My goal is to cycle across the globe and share my professional dance experience with different people by making stops at designated locations such as schools and villages and spending time with locals, performing to the communities there with a further possibility to teach workshops.
I aim to start the project in April / May 2017.
By cycling around the world, I want to share the extensive knowledge that I have gained as a professional dancer with others.
The idea of combining my love and passion for dance as well as my love for cycling in one single project first came to me after I went to India to perform with ‘ŻfinMalta’, in 2015.
I witnessed first hand the extreme differences between social classes and it was then that I realised that as professional dancers, we mostly perform to people who can afford theatre tickets rather than to those who don’t have access to dance. This was when I felt the need to reach out to people who might have never had the opportunity to experience or discover this wonderful form of expression.
I want to share my art through therapeutic dance/movement workshops and performances with minority groups, people who are marginalised by the social system and those facing the challenges of poverty, therefore after years of training and performing with the ‘Ballet Junior de Genève’ and also with ‘ŻfinMalta’, I feel the desire to move onto a project that is more personal to me.
Another strong personal motivation of mine is that whilst living in a world of high technology, using a bicycle allows me to:
- Be ecological.
- Be economic.
- Reconnect with humans and nature.
- Motivate and inspire people. I believe that my personal adventure will serve as an example that all dreams and goals can be achieved.
For my journey I would also like to strip away all forms of modern commodities (hotels, theatres, etc.) and fully immerse myself in a raw experience of travelling to be shared with various communities.
Gabin Corredor was born in Béziers, close to the Mediterranean Sea in France. He discovered Dance in 2009 at 'Espace 13' in Béziers.
In 2010 he began training at 'Epsedance' in Montpellier (France), followed by two years with the Ballet Junior de Genève (Switzerland). In Geneva and Montpellier, Gabin learned a lot of different works by different choreographers such as :
Hofesh Shechter, Barak Marshall, Roy Assaf, Ivan Perez, Andonis Foniadakis, Guilherme Botelho, Stijn Celis, Mavin Khoo, Thierry Malandain, Alexander Ekman, Crystal Pite, Gilles Jobin, Ken Ossola, Francesca Tranter, Cindy Van Acker, Corinne Lanselle, Christine Hassid, Claude Brumachon, Salia Sanou, Magalie Viguier, Severine Prunera, Rudy Bryans and Anne-Marie Porras among others.
In Geneva Gabin had the opportunity in Geneva to create his own piece for a programme called "Carte Blanche" in collaboration with Oscar Sanchez. They had the opportunity to teach the duet entitled "Weight and Think" to another cast in the program "MIX8" in Geneva from 6 to 8 December 2013.
In the summer of 2014 Gabin was engaged as company member of 'ZfinMalta Dance Ensemble'.
Allocation of funds
In order to embark on this adventure, I am setting up this campaign on the 'kisskissbankbank' platform to raise the money that will help me get all the necessary equipment I need for the trip, such as cycling ( bicycle, panniers, etc) / camping apparel ( tent, sleeping bags, etc), food supplies, cooking gear and video equipments, etc.
By helping me getting the equipment, you help me to give birth to this adventure !
I believe that dance is a very liberating art form that can help create healthy bonds between different people, and through the use of movement can make a positive change on an individual’s feelings, physical functions and behaviour.
As a personal experience, dance helped me build my self confidence, as it allows me to say things without the use of words. Dance is liberating and time is limitless. I believe that if dance has had an impact on my well-being, then it can have an impact on anyone.
This project will surely help me to grow as an artist as it will allow me to share my knowledge, but also potentially gain knowledge and experiences from various people around the globe, which will then enhance my own dancing.
I believe that passing my own knowledge on to others, is a rewarding experience.
By taking on this cycling adventure I want to inspire people everywhere that I go, and encourage them through simple humanitarian engagement.
Since ‘The Moving Cycle Adventure’ consists of extensive travel across the globe, it will enable me to discover new international potential for further collaborations, perhaps even to extend the project in the future. Although it is a wide-ranging undertaking, it by no means reaches all the communities out there, therefore I am hoping that this will be the beginning of something that can be elaborated further, and potentially can enable me to meet more and more communities that would like to be a part of this journey.
I hope to reach out to people at home who could perhaps contribute or want to share a similar experience.
Here is the support letter from the NGO towards my project.
