Un canoe, une pagaie, des bras ... et un deuxième coup de pouce !

My name is Ella Bregazzi and canoing has been a part of my daily life since the age of eleven.

This adventure began at the Kayak Club Angérien in the Charente Maritime departement of France where I first learnt to paddle a slalom boat. I quickly got a taste for the sport and for competition. At High School (age 15) I joined the Pôle Espoir (under 18 training centre) in Angoulême, and became vice-champion Cadette (under 16 age group) followed by Junior French Champion (under 18). In 2014 I made my first appearance in international competition, being selected for the french team and taking 5th place at the European Junior Championships in North Macedonia.

The following year I joined the Pôle France in Toulouse as well as the Institut National de Sciences Appliquées, an engineering school in Toulouse, where I an studying physical engineering. My ambition is to work in the renewable energy sector. A personalised timetable for high level sportsmen and women is available at the INSA, and this has allowed me to spread my studies over several years giving me more time to train.

I qualified for thr French under 23 team in 2015 and 2017 and competed in th European Championships, World Championships and several legs of the World Cup series.I achieved a top 10 european placing in 2015 and 17th at the World Championships in 2017.

2018 wasn’t such a good year for me, but it allowed me to re-evaluate my position, and come back even stronger this past season. In 2019 I took the French National Division 1 title. On the international circuit I finished 6th in the World Cup in Ljubljana in Slovenia, 7th in the individual event in the Under 23 European Championships in Slovakia and took the title of European Champion Under 23 in the team event.

This past season has given me some very emotional moments and makes me more determined to secure my place in the French senior team in 2020, and so look for good performances at the European Senior Championships which will be held at the 2012 Olympic course at Lee Valley, London and the World Cup circuit. The ambition of every sportsman and woman it to compete at the Olympic Games, and I am no different ! A few years ago I was far from favourite to represent France at the 2020 Games, but this year I have shown more than once that I am capable of competing with the best of the French women to secure the only place available for women’s canoe in Tokyo.

Allocation of funds

High level canoe slalom represents 10 to 16 training sessions per week, alternating technical sessions on the water with gym work, running and course analysis.

As each competition site is different, frequent trips to different white water courses is indispensable, be they in France, other parts of Europe, or even further afield. This includes travel to training camps as well as the competitions themselves.

Top of the range equipment, coaches and medical staff of high quality are also a necessity to achieve these high objectives.

Each year my motivation and desire to achieve higher podium positions only grows. And with this desire, the financial cost as well. Support from the regional council, département council, my club and my family isn’t enough to take me through to a final realisation of my project, and combining my studies with high level sport doesn’t allow me to work to finance myself.

Last year I received enormous support from crowd funding and your generosity has borne fruit. I thank you all so much. The money has been spent as expected throughout the season.

As this new season begins I am turning once again to you to help me finance my sporting activity. This will give me peace of mind, without having to worry about whether I can afford the travel to such or such a site, if Ihave to choose between a new boat or going to a particular comptition abroad, or if I can finance sessions with a professional in mental preparation .I will therefore be able to concentrate all my energy on training, and put in place all the necessary means to attain my goals in this very decisive year.
