Urgence en RD Congo : financement d'un kit d'urgence Ebola

ALIMA’s purpose is to save lives and provide care for the most vulnerable populations, without any discrimination.

ALIMA brings a new approach to transform humanitarian medicine through research and a unique alliance of organizations and individuals.

ALIMA stands for "The Alliance for International Medical Action". Founded in 2009, ALIMA is a medical humanitarian NGO operating in 10 countries in subsaharan Africa.

Our aim is to provide quality medical care in high-mortality areas, including zones facing conflicts, outbreaks and natural disasters.

ALIMA provides emergency medical assistance to more than 2,500 patients each day in Africa.

We have a recognized expertise on Ebola. In 2014, ALIMA intervened in Guinea during the 2014-2016 West African Ebola outbreak, which claimed the lives of more than 11,000 people. We have participated in several research projects related to the disease including trials on treatments, vaccines, treatments and innovation on individual treatment units.

In 2015 ALIMA was awarded the European Union’s first prize for its response against Ebola in Guinea.

The current Ebola emergency outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo:

On May 8th 2018, the World Health Organisation declared an Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

This time, the outbreak is not located in a remote area, but in the city of Mbandaka, with a population of more than 1 million people.

The situation is thus critical. The high density of the population greatly increases the risks of diffusion of the disease.

Drawing from its experience in fighting Ebola, on May 20th, ALIMA deployed an emergency team to Mbandaka, to assess the situation and offer medical support to the actors already present.

Allocation of funds

What we need:

Today, we must stop the spread of Ebola in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Considering the severity of the crisis, we need your help to provide a more rapid response in the field and support the Congolese health authorities.

We need your help to fund an Ebola Emergency Kit, which includes the following:

. Personal protective equipments and protective materials for the health workers.

. Medicine and medical equipment.

. Basic logistic equipment, including water, hygiene and sanitation materials.

This equipment will enable us to implement infection prevention and control measures and create the conditions necessary to provide quality medical assistance.

Phases of the project

Phase  1: The Emergency kit

During this first phase, we hope to reach €15,000 to be deploy an first emergency kit for our teams in the field.

However, as the needs are so great, we can and should do more.

Phase 2: Health Workers Training

If we reach €30,000, we will take on the second essential phase of  the response: training. The next €15,000 will enable us to provide practical training for local health workers. The training sessions will focus on protection and hygiene measures that are specific to Ebola.

Phase 3: Supporting the construction of an intensive care unit within the Ebola treatment center

If we reach €45,000, we can contribute to building an intensive care unite (ICU) with the Ebola treatment center. This unit will be provided with the necessary equiment to provide better quality treatment for Ebola patients.

With your help, together we will exceed our €15,000 objective!

Our team is already active on the field. There is no time to waste.
