To inaugurate this collection, here are three horrific gems unreleased in France since the VHS era. The Children (1980) with its maleficent kids, Mausoleum (1983) with its demon lady, and Spookies (1986) and its memorable festival of monsters. Support “The Horror Videostore” so that these three blu-ray can get real, and that we can keep on releasing new horrors movies in the future ! During this campaign, you also have the opportunity to preorder the two next releases from Rimini Editions: Sweet Sixteen (1983) and Mutant (1984) on blu-ray/DVD combo with booklet, and to receive these before their official release. In the 80’s, the young French film enthusiasts wander through their videostores, always looking for new thrills. Violence, sex, horror. The movies that the TV won’t broadcast flourish on tape. A wind of freedom sweeps the country. Horror films, which have long been limited to grindhouse cinema theaters, are at their prime among the people who rent VHS. Hundreds of videotapes and entire sections are dedicated to horrific thrills. Within this plethoric and constantly renewed offer, some films imposed themselves over the years and marked several generations of viewers. And yet, these movies haven’t been released in DVD nor blu-ray in France. With “The Horror Videostore”, we invite you to rewind your memories and to (re)discover this forgotten classics as you could newer watch it, in High Definition, with masters restored from the original 35mm camera negatives, with at choice the original version with optional subtitles or the vintage French dubs. Every disc will include many extras. You will be able to watch the films in VHSVision, exactly like in the 80’s. You will also find selections of vintage trailers and ads, curated by Otto Rivers, our most excellent VHS archivist. and as usual, each blu-ray will come with a reversible cover. We also created for you exclusive slipcover cases, made from thick cardboard (550g/m2), with protective varnish and alternative artwork, different from the reversible covers. For Spookies, some of you will recognize the splendid art by legendary Richard Corben, who sadly passed away two years ago. Our slipcovers will be limited to 500 copies for each film. Each blu-ray will be limited to 1000 copies. The Children (1980) by Max Kalmanowicz On the bus back from school, the children from a small town pass nearby a chemical plant and go through a toxic cloud. These nice kids will turn themselves into little monsters, able to fry their victims just by hugging them ! Huge rental success in France, The Children left his print at the time. Somewhere between Village of the Damned by John Carpenter and Night of the Living Dead by Gerorge Romero, this production gathers Rita Montone (Maniac, The Incredible Torture Show) and Peter Maloney (The Thing, Amityville) in a terrific adventure. The Children also benefits from the involvement of two Friday the 13th signatures : composer Harry Manfredi and cinematographer Barry Abrahams.
