Exhibition at the Leipzig Art Fair 2018

<p>Hi, thanks for stopping by. &nbsp;This is me in the studio.&nbsp;</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p><img width="100%" alt="" src="https://d3v4jsc54141g1.cloudfront.net/uploads/project_image/image/493658/DSCF6151-1520378492.JPG" /></p><p>&nbsp;</p><p><strong>WHO AM I?</strong></p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>I am an artist who mostly makes paintings. &nbsp;</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>I like to think I do a thing that nobody else does. &nbsp;I&#39;ve been doing it for more than 25 years and have had many exhibitions.</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p><strong>WHAT AM I DOING NOW?</strong></p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>Every year I make a new series of paintings. &nbsp;You can see the last few years work on my website: <strong><a target="_blank" href="http://www.corneliusdelaney.com">www.corneliusdelaney.com</a>&nbsp;</strong> Most years I get to exhibit this new work somewhere. Sometimes to a big crowd like at the Biennale in&nbsp;Grenoble in 2016&nbsp;and other times to an intimate gathering like at an associative caf&eacute;.</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>I am currently making some of the best work I have ever made.&nbsp;&nbsp;</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p><img width="100%" alt="" src="https://d3v4jsc54141g1.cloudfront.net/uploads/project_image/image/493657/ItsAGodAwfulSmallAffair_copie-1520378081.jpg" /></p><p><em>It&#39;s A God Awful Small Affair</em>, Acrylic on canvas, diptych (100cm x 160cm), 2018</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>This is one of my most recent&nbsp;paintings and an example of one that I would be taking to the Art Fair in Leipzig. The title&nbsp;is a line taken from David Bowie&#39;s song <em>Life On Mars. &nbsp;</em></p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>In this series I&#39;ve been using images of Martian landscapes I found on the internet&nbsp;and I don&#39;t know whether I&#39;m making pictures about Mars or Australia.&nbsp;I&#39;m from Australia originally,&nbsp;but now that I live in France, I could actually be from Mars. &nbsp;</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>I have always&nbsp;loved David Bowie&#39;s music and&nbsp;I wanted to include him in the work somehow. That is kind of how I work. &nbsp;I find things and things happen and I put them together with personal stuff, memories etc.,&nbsp;then&nbsp;I filter it and mix it&nbsp;and eventually a painting manifests. Stories emerge. &nbsp;Figures appear... some familiar, some not so much. &nbsp;</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>I get angry about the state of the world, anxious and sad, but in the paintings I am trying to work something out.&nbsp;&nbsp;So I&#39;m not telling you how to think or even really what to see. Sometimes it&#39;s funny, sometimes it doesn&#39;t make any sense. &nbsp;</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>Paintings don&#39;t have to make sense, they just have to be.</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p><img width="100%" alt="" src="https://d3v4jsc54141g1.cloudfront.net/uploads/project_image/image/494593/koda3-1520592740.jpg" /></p><p>&nbsp;</p><p><strong>WHY AM I ON KISSKISSBANKBANK?</strong></p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>I live&nbsp;in quite a&nbsp;remote part of France these days&nbsp;that is&nbsp;a great place for making the work, but perhaps&nbsp;a bit far away for&nbsp;the&nbsp;crowd who actually buy paintings.</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>I am often doing mass emails&nbsp;to galleries all over Europe and the world, trying to make new connections to show my work, but emails are a bit impersonal and you don&#39;t get much response. &nbsp;I go to the big cities like Lyon and Marseille and walk around speaking to people in galleries who ask&nbsp;&quot;<em>Why didn&#39;t you send us an email?</em>&quot;. &nbsp;</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>So, making the work is one thing, but getting to show it and sell it is another business entirely.</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>This year I have been invited to participate in the <strong><a target="_blank" href="http://kunstmesse-leipzig.de/en/home/">Leipzig Art Fair</a></strong> in Germany in November.
