The NGI association presents The subject of the film Confronted with royal authority and that of the Jesuits who seek to adapt the practices of the Church to the mores of their time, marked in particular by the current of libertines, a religious community based in Port Royal resists relativistic temptations and wants to re-establish a moral requirement in society through faith and religion. Blaise Pascal, an early and brilliant scientist, having been influenced by Jansenist thought in his childhood through his father’s education, seeks his way and his place in society at the time of his father’s death. He became an emblematic figure of this movement against accepted thought by joining the Abbey of Port Royal and by being a fervent defender. Indeed, his name is attached to many mathematical theorems and laws and also to major writings such as Provincials and Thoughts. It belongs to the circles of generalist thinkers who do not confine their reflection to a discipline.
