First used by the indians to park their canoes, then European fishing ships.</p> <p> &nbsp;</p> <p> <img alt="Vlcsnap-2013-07-10-01h20m41s95" src="https://kkbb-production.s3.amazonaws.com/uploads/project_image/image/33062/vlcsnap-2013-07-10-01h20m41s95.png" /></p> <p> &nbsp;</p> <p> <img alt="Vlcsnap-2013-07-10-01h12m16s194" src="https://kkbb-production.s3.amazonaws.com/uploads/project_image/image/33063/vlcsnap-2013-07-10-01h12m16s194.png" /></p> <p> Market structures were traditionally built over the water on wooden posts. The constructions were never meant to last, but the market as a place was: the market is dead, long live the market.&nbsp;</p>
<p> Sunday June 23rd, the New Amsterdam Market held an event at the former location of the Fulton Fish Market. This event was also an opportunity to remind the public that the space is in danger of being destroyed. It was interesting to listen to the vision the speakers had of the space and its history, especially when comparing it to the workers in Hunts Point. The Fish Market is a territory currently in the middle of a very strong political and architectural struggle. This gives a very vivid foreground to our project.</p> <p> &nbsp;</p> <p> &nbsp;<img alt="Vlcsnap-2013-06-28-22h58m09s76" src="https://kkbb-production.s3.amazonaws.com/uploads/project_image/image/31551/vlcsnap-2013-06-28-22h58m09s76.png" /></p> <p> &nbsp;</p> <p> <img alt="Vlcsnap-2013-06-28-22h55m29s34" src="https://kkbb-production.s3.amazonaws.com/uploads/project_image/image/31552/vlcsnap-2013-06-28-22h55m29s34.png" /></p> <p> &nbsp;</p> <p> &nbsp;</p>

<p class="p1"> Visiting Boston, made a little detour to the biggest competitor of NYC&#39;s Fish Market on the East Coast, the &nbsp;<b>Boston Fish Market</b>.&nbsp;</p> <p class="p2"> &nbsp;</p> <p class="p1"> Nobody around (almost noon), except a couple security officers, and only one Journey Man.</p> <p class="p2"> &nbsp;</p> <p> <img alt="Capture_d__cran_2013-06-11___23.14.50" src="https://kkbb-production.s3.amazonaws.com/uploads/project_image/image/28717/Capture_d__cran_2013-06-11___23.14.50.png" /></p> <p> &nbsp;</p> <p class="p1"> Basically the same idea, long buildings, high security, strong smell of fish. But very different atmosphere: direct unloading from the boats at dock, located -as you would expect- in the seaport district, just a couple blocks from the financial district. Nothing very appealing, as opposed to Hunts Point. Boring. All very obvious. Nothing like the spatial complexities linked to the Fulton Market.&nbsp;</p> <p class="p2"> &nbsp;</p> <p class="p1"> Makes one realize with more intensity the originality of the New Fulton Fish Market and its neighborhood.</p> <p class="p2"> &nbsp;</p> <p class="p1"> Some pictures of the Boston Fish Market:</p> <div> &nbsp;</div> <p> <img alt="Cam00198" src="https://kkbb-production.s3.amazonaws.com/uploads/project_image/image/28718/CAM00198.jpg" /></p> <p> &nbsp;</p> <p> <img alt="Cam00199" src="https://kkbb-production.s3.amazonaws.com/uploads/project_image/image/28719/CAM00199.jpg" /></p> <p> &nbsp;</p> <p> <img alt="Capture_d__cran_2013-06-11___23.48.32" src="https://kkbb-production.s3.amazonaws.com/uploads/project_image/image/28720/Capture_d__cran_2013-06-11___23.48.32.png" /></p> <p> &nbsp;</p> <p> <img alt="Capture_d__cran_2013-06-11___23.53.07" src="https://kkbb-production.s3.amazonaws.com/uploads/project_image/image/28721/Capture_d__cran_2013-06-11___23.53.07.png" /></p> <p class="p2"> &nbsp;</p> <p class="p2"> &nbsp;</p> <p class="p2"> &nbsp;</p>
