[ IT'S STILL POSSIBLE TO SUPPORT OUR PROJECT BY DONATING, AND HELP US TO OVERCOME THE THRESHOLD OF 300 EUROS! To get more informations, please visit the section below ]

In November 2014 we, 5 students of Sorbonne University in Paris, decided to go and discover the universe of Roma people. The association Save the children Romania Bucarest accepted to support us in this adventure.

The Roma people represent the biggest minority in Europe (10 to 14 millions, 0,2% of the total population). They live on the margins of society, everybody talks about them but nobody really knows them well.

Did you know that... the Roma people are almost all european citizens? Or that in Romania they were forced to settle down by the dictator Ceausescu?

Facing the rise of stereotypes, knowledge is the key defense tool.

Despite the Roma Integration Strategy conducted by the European Union, the acquisition of rights based on national and European citizenship remains problematic.Access to education is a fundamental right and it is a major component of the social and economic integration. There are studies quantifying the access of Roma people to education and analysing the external barriers they have to face. However, there are not many that take into account the perception of Roma communities of education, its characteristics, its usefulness, and so on.

This is what we propose to do!

We will meet the Roma communities in the Paris region and in the Ferentari area of Bucharest, to obtain the knowledge of their view of the school. What do the Roma communities think about school? Do the Roma minorities currently living in Romania have the same opinion as those living in France? By comparing the perceptions of both communities, can we improve access to education for Roma people here in France and over there in Romania? What would be, according to the Roma populations concerned, the best way to have access to education? Are the systems offered by the two countries adequate?

To answer all these questions, we will go to Romania from the 4th June until the 30th, and we will continue our project in France in September and October 2015.

Our effort will lead to the writing of a report which we will share with local authorities, associations, or curious readers like you!

Allocation of funds

This is an unpaid study-action. The most expensive part of our project is the transport! The round trip between Paris and Bucharest is costing us € 200 per person, meaning 1000 € in total . If we add the public transport card in Bucharest which costs € 18 per person we need 1090 € to be able to join the ‘travelling people’! Support us by

participating to the financing of our project! The goal of this collection is 300 €, any additional help is welcome!
