Go With The Flo

Go with the Flo?

We are a young Mexican/French couple that have left everything behind to start traveling only by volunteering. We have been doing this for around 6 months now. We were travelling volunteering in Europe first (Hungary, Bulgaria and Turkey) and we decided to take it to the next level… Asia! We got inspiration on the way as we realized how much we can contribute to the world even if we are on the move. We recently came up with this video project in which we want to promote "slow traveling" and volunteering as an alternative and committed way of traveling thanks to our YouTube channel.

The main character (Flo), a traveler and volunteer will show us and share with us his adventure around the world. Well... In Asia to begin with!

Who lays behind Go with the Flo?

Go with the Flo is made up of two travelers! Skarlet (with a “k” ? Yes!) and Florient (“ient”? Again, yes).

Alright, Skarlet (ladies first!)

So, who is she? A volunteer, an artist, a traveler, a discoverer… After finding my passion in the arts, I decided to leave my home country in Mexico and pursue my artistic career in the unbeatable New York City! But deep down I knew something was missing… Having a heart of an explorer, I knew there was more to life than just existing; so, I quit my job, bought a cheap DSLR camera, took my bags and off I was into the discovery of the world. One year later I’m still on the road with no signs of stopping. If I can use my skills to help future generations discover themselves throughout slow-traveling or help wildlife by promoting how we can help would mean I have not only done something for my own self but also for the future of humanity.

Now, who is Florient? A bearded French who decided to go explore the world! I have always been a very curious boy. The routine bothers me. After high-school, I never stayed more than a year in the same city. One of my dreams was to fall in love with a stranger and go travelling with her. So… I think I did pretty well! I am attracted by the unknown, the mysteries, the adventures!

Before I met Skarlet I was just starting to get interested in film-making and as we were volunteering, she taught me everything about it! How to do storyboards, how to use the camera, how to edit… And the thing is, I love it! On top of that, if we can help communities through volunteering, inspire future travelers to go “slow-travelling” and enjoy our adventure by doing what we do, why would we stop?

We met in Iceland volunteering. We were leading volunteer workcamps all over Iceland and we truly clicked right away! And a year later, here we are, still on the road! After Iceland, we knew that the adventure was just about to start and we decided to keep doing what we love the most: travelling.

What do we do?

What we do is we go to all sorts of volunteer programs (protection of the animals, conservation of the environment, education, construction projects...) and we make a video about it as well as videos of the country we are living in. We are now in Laos. We want to cover all South East Asia if possible! We stay at least a month in each country to have the time to go and stay in different places and programs.

There'll be a lot to learn with our series of videos as we live with the locals and are a part of the community for a while! You'll learn about the culture, of course, as well as the cuisine, the volunteering projects going on, Buddhism, plus all the surprises on the way!

What for?

Well, first, we are passionate about it. We love making videos and we'll keep doing it no matter what.

Then, this project is about international solidarity. We realized how much we can contribute through volunteering. We help communities to complete projects that might be small to us but it brings them so much.We also try to consume local products and you can actually choose where your money goes. It is just about making an effort.

Finally, we believe in in this unique way of travelling that is slow-travelling as actors of this movement for a while now. We are against mass tourism and all the negative impacts it causes such as destruction of the environment, massive waste and abuse of animals among others! This project, apart from being informative, is also educational. Indeed, we want to show it is possible to travel while helping around instead of participating to this destruction.

Our work so far :

To have an idea of our work, here is our youtube channel where you can find all of our videos.

https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCsFpkhRNE5T1T4xFfg22OGg

Here is a video about goat cheese making in Hungary :

This was in a sanctuary for rescued dogs in Turkey (we stayed 6 weeks!) :

Here is a video about an elephants sanctuary in Thailand where we volunteered a week :

On a side note, apart from the video, we also write articles for TheGreenLion. Allocation of funds

In order to keep doing this project we are passionate about, we need funds for two things :

- To help us get material :

We already have one basic camera (Canon Rebel T5) and a Dell computer to edit.

> Another camera Canon Rebel T5 (370€). We are truly limited when filming because we have to pass the camera to each other every five minutes. It would be A LOT easier to have 2 cameras to have more angles and perspectives!

> A 75-300mm lens (100€) to give us more artistic possibilities!

So, the material sums up to 470€.

- To pay for the transportation and the Visas for each country. Although we slow-travel, we move quite a lot!

A Visa costs us 25/30€ on average and we want to go to at least 15 countries and surely more (Cambodia, Nepal, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Vietnam, China, Indonesia, South Korea, Mongolia…). Not to mentioned that we might go several times to certain countries and/or extend the Visas because a month is truly short for big counties such as Thailand, China or Mongolia.

Of course it is an average but for 10 countries it will be around 500/600€ for 2 people.

The last part would cover for transportation from one country to another (by bus because it’s better for our planet!). It can vary but we can manage to go from one country to another for an average of 40 euros. For 10 countries and 2 people it would then sum up to 800€

Alright! So… 470+600+800 ? Anyone? The answer is… 1870 !

Don’t forget the 8% for Kisskissbankbank : 160€ for a goal of 2000€.

1870 + 160 = 2030€.

Enough with maths! As we said, most of the funds will help us with the transportation. Funding us will basically allow us to keep going to volunteering projects. This means more videos, more things to share with you about the culture, the locals… and all the surprises about this incredible continent that is Asia!

Here is a little forecast of our budget (although there can be few last minute changes) :

What if we outreach the goal?

Well, first, THANK YOU!!

If we outreach the goal, the money will be used to repay our families that backed us financially at the beginning of our project and/or pay for Skarlet's computer repair. He abandonned us 2 months ago (the mother board has to be changed and we can't afford that).

THANK YOU FOR YOUR ATTENTION !

Take care!
