Synopsis "After 87 years of an exciting and creative life, the painter Yann Casimir Krakowiak left us in June 2019. Where is he now? I hope to find him again... Among his friends, his family, his collectors, in his paintings, his drawings, his archives as well as all the traces and memories left by this unclassifiable and brilliant painter." Rémi Vouters Yann Casimir Krakowiak Son of Polish immigrants in France, Yann Casimir Krakowiak, also known as "Krako", has devoted his entire life to painting, sculpture and drawing in an expressionist and humanist style. Through this film, we wish to revive this artist and pay him tribute by showing the extent of his work and answering the following questions: What drives a man to devote himself body and soul to his art? Where does this vocation come from? What did he want to show us? What were his dreams? Where does the artist's spirit hide? The clues are multiple: in his works, his writings, his archives, the memories of his friends, in Polynesia, in Brittany, in Valenciennes, in Raismes, his birthplace, and in Aulnoy-lez-Valenciennes, in his studio house. Krako, the phenomenon Baroque, atypical, Krako the painter, have been a revelator of the modern world. He magnifies the beauty of the world while underlining its brutality. He plays with the paradoxes of the human being. A world where sweetness and violence, joy and melancholy, goodness and badness are never far away. Between laughter and tears the border is sometimes tiny. Krako wanted to describe the world in all its complexity but always with fantasy and originality. It reminds us that freedom of thought, action and creation are vital forces. "Krako, are you there?" A project in progress that is just waiting to be finalized with your help. I knew Yann Casimir Krakowiak since my childhood in the 80s and 90s, first intrigued by the character over the years and meetings (exhibitions, openings, art fairs) we became friends. In 2004, I organized an exhibition of his works in Hem and then I asked him to play in a theater show that I directed: Le Bric à Bracadabra. We talk about creation and painting. Captivated by the work as much as by the personality of the artist, I started to film Krako in his studio in 2012, before his trip to Polynesia and I continued some shootings when he returned to his house in 2018 during his last exhibition in Aulnoy-Lez-Valenciennes.
