By giving birth to an ant, you participate in the development of the nest. Tahia, Léa and Tibo, 3 potters will create a sculpture that materializes KissBankers help, by making a donation, each participant will give birth to a new ant that will bear his initials and that will populate the Anthill. <img alt="Img_1375-1475683226" height="169" src="https://d3v4jsc54141g1.cloudfront.net/uploads/project_image/image/355636/IMG_1375-1475683226.JPG" width="169"> ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ WHAT ? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The Anthill: a nest including the shop and the workshop, like a colony of ants, Tahia, Léa and Tibo collaborate to build a common project based on their individual and complementary skills. A workshop: an experimentation and creation laboratory where we share our production tools, this allows us to start our artisanal production with a reasonable cost, the objective is to preserve a craftsmanship that is a mixture of a traditional know-how and our contemporary visions of ceramics. A shop: an artistic platform used not only to showcase unique, original handmade items produced in small series but also to support and exhibit other artists. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ HOW ? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ In order for the Anthill to develop, it needs to produce ceramics items, the colony found already a nest and started all the necessary arrangements to start the project, the shop is under construction, the workshop contains raw materials waiting to get alive, nevertheless, it still lacks the most essential production tool: The pottery kiln! The pottery kiln is the indispensable tool for ceramists; it allows them to transform the clay to terracotta by raising it to a very high temperature (between 1000°C and 1300°C) <img alt="14459106_10209938992567911_403863009_n-1474910446" src="https://d3v4jsc54141g1.cloudfront.net/uploads/project_image/image/352930/14459106_10209938992567911_403863009_n-1474910446.jpg"> ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ WHERE AND WHY ? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Our way of working and our personal productions require more and more space, this lead us very quickly to choose the countryside in a place more suitable to the expansion of the Anthill. <img alt="14468449_1813834422234455_9147945316610953270_o-1474912917" src="https://d3v4jsc54141g1.cloudfront.net/uploads/project_image/image/352941/14468449_1813834422234455_9147945316610953270_o-1474912917.jpg"> <a href="https://www.google.fr/maps/place/71460+Chapaize/@46.5526105,4.6993826,13z/data=!3m1!4b1!4m5!3m4!1s0x47f308c812729333:0x409ce34b30eefd0!8m2!3d46.55737!4d4.734174" target="_blank">Chapaize</a> village knew how to preserve its history and heritage while developing at the same time a very active local life. Chapaize “thinks globally and acts locally”. The natural beauty of the place; the taste of its gastronomy and local products, the importance given to the craft art and the international tourism made us confirm our choice. “We meet many craftsmen artists in the village and around, there are very good concerts there, as well as a small organic market during Sundays. But above all, people come there to visit and take pictures of the magnificent Romanesque church of St. Martin, a true jewel of sacred art. It is visited by at least 30 000 visitors from all around the world each year” <a href="http://" target="_blank">suite de l'article de presse</a> Near Chapaize, there are several castles and historical sites (Brancion, Cormatin, Tournus, Cluny), the vins road, the greenway that stretches across southern Burgundy, the monastery of Taizé and other essential places of the region. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ WHO? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We are 3 ceramists aged 21, 25 and 28 from Burgundy, Vosges and Bio-Bio (In Chile). We met during our studies in Antibes, where we got a Degree in Artistic Craft “Diplôme des Métiers d'Arts (DMA)” in Ceramics. This degree allowed us to access a residency for a 2 years offered by the city of Antibes. The name of the residency is “Antibes residency for young ceramist’s artists”, in French: Résidence Antiboise de Jeunes Artistes Céramistes (<a href="http://rajacantibes.wixsite.com/ceramique#!" target="_blank">RAJAC</a>). In the residency we experimented working in a collective workshop (we were 9) while developing our own artistic identity. Those two years represented for us a springboard between the student life and the working life; it allowed us also to network with other ceramists by meeting professionals and participating or organizing markets. <img alt="Capture_d_e_cran_2016-09-27_a__09.55.27-1474962978" src="https://d3v4jsc54141g1.cloudfront.net/uploads/project_image/image/353076/Capture_d_e_cran_2016-09-27_a__09.55.27-1474962978.png"> <a href="http://cargocollective.com/tahiastrika" target="_blank">Ant Tahia:</a> Tahia is hardworking, meticulous and organized. More focused on artistic expressions, her pieces are unique. Her perpetual search for new enamels colors leads her to develop new and original pieces. He loves to realize big size pieces that catch the attention. January to March: - Workshop: fabricate some drying and arrangement furniture, lighting, layout the workspaces (turning, casting, molding, enameling, drying, threshing, crusted, cleaning, firing) - Shop: laying out the shop (painting, furniture, lighting, visual communication) April: -Inauguration of the workshop/shop and its opening to the public, all the ants are awaited with open claws. -Sending of the promised pieces to our dear kissBankers’ ants in return for their contributions. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ WHAT YOU WILL GET IN RETURN~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Each contribution will give birth to an ant on the sculpture that will adorn our nest; the ant will bear the initials of the name of her progenitor. Moreover, some of you will get small, medium, big, very big or gigantic gifts. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ WITH THIS COLLECTION, WE WILL ABLE TO BUY ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Thanks to your contribution, we will be able to buy: / 2500 € A second hand gas pottery kiln (brand new price 8000 €) ->This type of kiln can go up to 1300°C thanks to its gas burners. The contact of the pieces with the flames and the kiln conditions allows it to obtain more nuanced glaze colors than in an electric kiln. <img alt="Img_4598-1474971993" src="https://d3v4jsc54141g1.cloudfront.net/uploads/project_image/image/353121/IMG_4598-1474971993.JPG"> / 1500 € Isolate the workshop in an ecologic manner -> We chose industrial hemp which is an effective insulation, natural and easily reusable. Winters can be very cold in Burgundy, that’s why having some insulation in our workshop is a must. <img alt="13407585_10208418145165660_1164733480_n-1474969361" src="https://d3v4jsc54141g1.cloudfront.net/uploads/project_image/image/353102/13407585_10208418145165660_1164733480_n-1474969361.jpg"> <img alt="Img_4970-1474969837" src="https://d3v4jsc54141g1.cloudfront.net/uploads/project_image/image/353103/IMG_4970-1474969837.JPG"> /// 500 € A second hand electric potter’s wheel ->The potter’s wheel allows us to create regular forms in all sizes; Lea has the habit of turning her utility pieces using a wheel, Tibo loves to create big size pieces by assembling multiple subparts and Tahia prefers to turn the details of her sculptures in order to work them later. <img alt="Img_1396-1474971466" src="https://d3v4jsc54141g1.cloudfront.net/uploads/project_image/image/353118/IMG_1396-1474971466.JPG"> ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ IF WE GET MORE ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ / We will buy a plodder (approximately 1000€ for a second hand plodder ) ->An electric machine used to recycle the clay more easily than by hand; the clay can be recycled endlessly till it is transformed to terracotta. This will allow us to avoid wasting clay. Manual recycling implies lots of physically intensive manipulations (transportation, sieving, mixing…etc.).
