RACHEL

Written and directed by Régis Quimbre, produced by Furtif Film Production, Rachel is a 20-minute short film that deals in an original way with a couple of women who have recourse to PMA (medically assisted procreation). This film deals with a subject that concerns women all over the world, regardless of their ethnic origin. Although committed, we want to make a touching film, in a modern and contemporary style with a subtle touch of humor, without clichés and accessible to all audiences. The shooting of this film will take place in France and more particularly, in Corsica, New Aquitaine, Normandy and on the island of Reunion. Join us on the facebook page of Furtif Film production: https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100089671826301 Help us promote the financing of the short film Rachel, your help is precious to us. --- PITCH Marie, co-director of an architecture company, is devastated by the sudden death of Louise, her companion, which calls into question their life project. The two young women had just embarked on medically assisted procreation (PMA) support. Lost, Marie must make a choice : stop the current process or bear Louise's child. --- AUTHOR'S NOTE OF INTENT The idea of writing this screenplay came to me during a conversation with a couple of friends who wanted to have a child. On the one hand, they were happy to tell me that they were getting married, but they beamed with happiness to tell me that the law on medically assisted procreation (PMA) had evolved, finally giving lesbian couples the possibility of benefit from this support.Touched by their story and their determination to support this family project, they also awakened old memories in me. Indeed, twenty years ago, with my companion at the time who suffered from endometriosis, we followed a program of assistance to PMA, a very heavy procedure administratively and during which meetings with psychologists and social services were just as decisive as the opinion of the doctors as to the possibility of being able to benefit from this medical aid programme. You should know that in France, in vitro fertilization was born on February 24, 1982 with the birth of Amandine and that access to PMA was only reserved for heterosexual couples for reasons of infertility, until the modification of the law on August 2, 2021. It will therefore have been necessary to wait almost forty years for the National Assembly and the Senate to promulgate an extension of the law, in particular by removing the medical criterion of infertility and then by giving access to PMA to female couples and single women. Following this extraordinary progress, several deputies and associations proposed to take advantage of this momentum to go even further, by giving these women the right to choose their sperm donor while retaining the choice of using an anonymous donor. if they wished. Unfortunately, the hypocrisy of the deputies certainly not yet wishing to find themselves with "anti marriage for all" on their backs, caused the majority of the assembly to reject the proposal, truly leaving France behind on this subject. . Will we have to wait another 40 years to see this right finally adopted? In fact, the reality is quite different. Some private clinics offer special support to lesbian couples or single women, in particular by bringing to their attention certain flaws in the system, allowing them to choose their sperm donor (flaws that have certainly remained voluntarily open pending the evolution of mentalities within our society). This is why, through this love story between these two women and their family project, I wish to bring to the attention of the public, the possibility of oocyte donation between spouses. I also hope that this film contributes to the evolution of the mentalities of French society on this subject, and more generally on the right to freedom, the freedom to be, to think as well as on the freedom to choose one's sexual orientation. without this being an obstacle to family projects. --- ACHIEVEMENT NOTE I am going to make this fiction film using digital cameras, in a modern and dynamic way, without resorting to special effects. The film will be 20 minutes long, in color, at an aspect ratio of 2.35. I will use spherical lenses with short and long fixed focal length values. I will mainly play on the distances, on the positioning of my camera and on the shot values. I will use the camera as a global point of view but also to have that of the protagonists and their emotions. In terms of machinery, I will mainly use a fixed camera with nevertheless a little traveling, certain sequences require me to shoot certain shots using a steadicam or a drone. In general, for the image processing, I would like the colorimetry used during the calibration to be a processing of warm colors, slightly in teal orange tones. I want this film to exude emotion, love and open-mindedness with a hint of spirituality, so I'm going to start this film with a sequence shot of a drone in a wide shot and a long focal length. The drone's eye will represent a first-person point of view moving through a blue, sunny sky, cutting through some white clouds, then swooping down to a marina where it will zoom around between the masts of boats to complete its close-up run. in front of the door of a sailboat in which we will discover Marie, a young pregnant woman installed at a table in a cozy setting with dimmed light, writing a letter intended for her future daughter, in order to explain her conception, we will then dive into the few months leading up to this moment. I will then introduce the three main characters, starting with the reception organized following the funeral of Louise, this funny and dynamic young woman, and the emotional impact this has on Marie. I will then introduce Fred, the couple's best friend who will be Marie's unfailing support. Then, I will continue on the PMA procedure that the couple had started and the decision that Marie must make on this subject. To make matters worse, comes the conflict between Marie and her homophobic parents. In conclusion, Marie will choose to carry her companion's child and set off on an adventure with the help of her sailboat, this departure representing freedom. I will end the film as I started it, with a drone sequence shot which will let Marie take to the sea with her sailboat, while the drone will leave for the sky. This final plan will be the point of view of something non-palpable, like the concretization of the accomplished mission of accompanying a star representing, as you have understood, the character of Louise. --- MAIN ROLES For the role of Marie, the actress approached is Katiana Castelnau, Best actress at the Feel Real Festival in Glasgow in 2018. The youngest of seven siblings, his older sisters and brother left the family cocoon in the months following his birth. He grew up until he was six years old with his youngest brother twelve years his senior, then was raised by his parents as an only son. Although his parents are middle-class, they had before his birth a life in Parisian high society with a disputed and questionable important political past, which was not revealed to Régis until a few days after the respective deaths of his parents which occurred a few months apart, when he was only 16 years old. Refusing any placement, whether family or foster, he decides to leave. With a few francs in his pocket, he buys a plane ticket and leaves for Reunion Island. He then met a Creole family who took him in and stayed there until 1988, the year he turned 18, when he decided to return to Paris. Lost, living off odd jobs, he falls into petty crime, fervently supports the SOS Racisme movement, where he is approached by skinhead hunters, a band he quickly joins, one evening he is arrested during a brawl with a band of skins, which earned him a few months in prison. On his release from prison in 1990, he was automatically directed towards a reintegration program led by the local missions. Thanks to this program, he participates with thirty other young people in the Tour de France à la voile. Then begins for Régis an intensive training of several months in Granville in order to learn the basics of sailing. During the competition, he participated in two regattas of the Tour de France but did not fit in at all in this sporting environment and then asked to leave the program. The director of local missions offers him an alternative: to join the team of handlers working on the end-of-stage concerts of the regattas. Régis accepts and will spend two months loading and unloading all the equipment necessary for the concerts. The Tour de France sailing is over, Régis returns to Paris and continues to maintain good relations with the technicians he met during the Tour de France. He almost never leaves them and comes to help them on all their concerts. He was then noticed by the boss of the equipment rental company who took him under his wing, trained him and went so far as to finance his truck license. Régis then began his career in the field of performing arts by accepting all the sound assistant positions that were offered to him, as long as he went on tour, everything suited him, what he wanted was to work in the music and travel. It was during this period that he accepted the replacement of a technician who had to work on a show occurring at the Olympia. It was during this Olympia that he met the artist Gilbert Bécaud who turned out to be an old friend of his paternal grandmother. Gilbert Bécaud in turn takes him under his wing on his tours and offers him the job of stage manager. Régis, aware of the chance he has to be part of the Bécaud team, works tirelessly and quickly evolves as stage manager and then general manager. His name and his professional skills circulated in Paris, particularly within the two largest Parisian production companies which then called on him, which propelled him to the top of French variety in just a few months, making him the youngest executive. touring technical director of his generation. In the following years, he successively became the stage manager and then the technical director of the tours of Jean Pierre Cassel, Sheila, Gérard Lenormand, Smaïn, Vincent Lagaf, Muriel Robin, les Chevaliers du fiel, Dany Brillant, Khaled, Rachid Taha, Cheb Mami, Angélique Kidjo , Sector A, Patrick Fiori, Marc Lavoine, The Rabeats, Yvan Le Bolloc'h & My guitar is called comes back. His many artistic and professional encounters occupied him tirelessly until his meeting in 2005 with a young singer, Samuelle, with whom he fell in love. On June 24, 2011, little Dune was born, a first name he chose with his wife in homage to the American science fiction film written and directed by David Lynch, who had literally branded him with a hot iron when it was released in 1984. The birth of Dune is a real revelation for Régis who finds it increasingly difficult to go on tour. He then tries a professional retraining which is a failure. He then began to write songs for different performers, resumed short-term tours in order to preserve his family life. On January 2, 2015, this time little Vadim was born, a first name they gave in homage to Roger Vadim, a director whom Samuelle and he are particularly fond of. In June 2015, wishing to raise their children in a place dedicated to nature combining sea and mountains, he decided with his wife to settle in Corsica, where they would marry a year later. Although Corsica is a magnificent island, they decide after careful consideration to leave the island at the beginning of 2019 to come and settle on the island of Reunion where Régis finds his adoptive family and the very strong ties that unite them. In March 2020, he created Zwazo production and produced local artists but the COVID crisis arose and the sector of activity came to a sudden halt. He then took advantage of this particular period to get back to writing. He collaborates remotely with Frédéric Kocourek on the writing of his wife's new album, then begins to write his story on the computer, without really knowing if the final project will be a book or a film. He then researches the scriptwriting methodology allowing him to refine and change his writing axis. He goes on to write several short film scenarios and then a feature film on different themes and registers. At the same time, he took theater and acting lessons to better understand the profession of actor and obtained several roles in short films and in a France Television series. He also participates in training on film production. Aware of not having all the cogs necessary for scriptwriting, he applied in early 2021 for several short film writing residencies. In mid-October, when he took part in the writing support "Un an, dix courts" taking place in Reunion and covering the basic rules and rewriting work, he was selected to participate in a second residency of writing proposed this time by the GREC taking place in southern Corsica in Porto Vecchio from October 27 to November 10 on the island he had left three years earlier. On the strength of his experience acquired during his two writing residencies, his scripts have emerged strengthened and won the praise of the GREC trainers. Back in Reunion, in order to complete his learning process, he will once again go to mainland France in February 2022 to participate in the professional meetings of the Clermont-Ferrand short film festival. In November 2022, he followed a director's training offered by Ciné system taking place in Paris, which today allows him to combine his artistic desires with technical practices and languages. https://www.facebook.com/regisquimbre -- BIO OF THE SONGWRITER COMPOSER Author composer interpreter, Samuelle is a fresh and dynamic artist as are her texts and her music. As far back as we can go back in her past, there is a lot of music, with singer parents, an accordionist grandmother, a drummer brother, a dancer sister, Samuelle grew up in an artistic environment, rocked by French song and folk and country music. She took classical dance, music theory, piano and guitar lessons and developed an addiction to English-speaking pop/rock music as a teenager (Queen, Madonna, M.Jackson, Cranberries, Coldplay). At the age of eighteen, in 1996, she enrolled at Sacem and joined the festive pop rock group JanA, as a singer, guitarist/accordionist, author/composer with whom she toured more than 400 concert venues for ten years and acquires real stage experience: Révélation Crédit Mutuel, Printemps de bourges, RTL2, and many opening acts such as Sinsemilia, Superbus, Axel Bauer, etc. In 2005, in search of artistic freedom, Samuelle took off for a solo career. She joined the collective C.C.L.D. led by Marc Lavoine and recorded the single "France is stronger with you" which will represent the French football team at the World Cup. The single signed with Mercury - Universal Music advocates living together and fights against discrimination. In 2011, after a long work of composition and co-writing with Régis Quimbre, a first studio album "Entente Préalable" was recorded in the studio with renowned musicians, produced by Manu Chambo, pianist and stage musical arranger of Hélène Ségara and mixed by Serge Veneruso. This first album full of freshness offers festive and catchy songs in tender laments and tinged with melancholy and reveals a universe punctuated with slices of life which in turn make you smile and move. Excavated texts, neat melodies, a broken grain of voice, the album is presented in Paris at the Zèbre de Belleville and in the provinces. One of the tracks from the album “Comme un air de vacances” reached the final of the Première chance competition on France Bleu National. Two titles will be in rotation for several months on local and regional radio stations throughout France. Samuelle will export her album to Corsica where she will perform for two years in around thirty concerts throughout Corsica, and will be invited to France Bleue Corse and France 3 Via Stella for live broadcasts. After becoming a mother twice and collaborations on stage and in writing for other artists, Samuelle moved to Reunion in 2019. Just before the start of the health crisis, she opened for Marc Lavoine at the Teat plein air in St Gilles with guitarist David Doré. An audience of more than 1,200 spectators gave him a warm welcome filled with great promise for the future. She follows different training courses: Author of songs, Arrange differently and Compose/produce in Logic Pro X in order to have the necessary tools for writing and composing in MAO. She is currently working on a new album. https://soundcloud.com/samuelle-officiel https://www.youtube.com/user/samuelleofficiel
