School for Life Project

Hello everyone. My name's Victor Quilichini and I'm from Paris, France.

I just turned 18 and I'm currently studying Biology and Environment at Sorbonne University (in Paris), in order to gather as much knowledge as I can about our planet to find the best ways to preserve it. Because protecting the Earth is protecting its inhabitants (and we're part of them!)

As we're all living inside this miraculous bubble of life floating in space, us humans have to cooperate to move towards a brighter future by focusing on values like love, solidarity and sharing ; because those are the truly important ones. In the end, we're all on the same team, right ?

Following this mindset, I came up with this little project. It's not much but it's a good start.

But first, let me explain how it all started :

On April 25th 2015, the most powerful earthquake since 1934 in Nepal struck the country, 77km from Kathmandu. With a magnitude of 8 on the Richter scale, it caused the death of 17 000 people in the country. Tremors were even felt all the way to New Delhi. The impact was devastating.

In March 2017, my mother travelled to Nepal, and visited a school nearly entirely destroyed by the earthquake and partly rebuilt. I was deeply moved and so I contacted the English teacher of the school : M. Bam Dev Sharma, in order to get information on how I could help them.

Bam Dev Sharma (Photo taken during my mom's trip)

Their institution was already helped by an association : Gers-Himalaya. However, Bam Dev mentioned another school called Pranabanand Ashram in Gaurighat, next to the Pashupatinath Temple. A hundred of children of all ages go there, most of them are orphans since the earthquake. They are willing to learn but suffer from a lack of ressources. Bam Dev has written to me about their shortage of school supplies like notebooks...

The happiness soiled by misery in their eyes struck me when I saw the photos. I knew I had to take action.

Child from the school my mom visited.

Education is the key, the key to development and the best way to escape misery.

The starting idea is simple : to help these children in need by bringing them as many school supplies as possible.

So I reached out to the French school supplies brand Clairefontaine, and offered them a deal :

With a small film crew, we would go there, bring school supplies Clairefontaine would have provided and film everything so that on one hand, we can promote Clairefontaine and on the other hand help this school, give hope to the teachers, the principal, and the families. That would show them that they are not alone, that we are here for them.

Clairefontaine agreed.

Moreover, we are going to collect school supplies in different schools here in Paris to maximise our help.

But the main goal is way more than just "bringing school supplies" to the school.

The purpose of this project is divided in two points :

- Help the school and its community. Show them that they're not alone !

- Show, through our video report, the significant role of education to ensure a bright future for the children. But also, to show that they are humans like us, who deserve a decent life. Interviews with the school staff and a family are also planned.

This project will allow us to raise awareness and make our people realize how lucky we are to live in developed countries.

The video report will consist in two different and complementary videos :

    - the first one will be of a small format (4-9 minutes) dedicated to social medias (Youtube, Facebook..) in order to share it as much as possible.

    - the second one will be of a longer format, for every platform or channel able to broadcast it.

The crew :

Clara Quilichini :

« I’m 21, and I’ve been working as an actress since I was 4. After graduating from high school, I studied movie making in a film school, ESEC, and I got to write and direct a short film.

I’m also working for Disney Channel France : I’ve been hosting a show on the channel for over two years now. This gave me the opportunity to get involved in the fight against bullying, by participating to an awareness-raising spot.

With my experience as an actress and young director, I’ll help create the short film around this project, shadowing Victor along the trip.

This will allow us to share his adventure on the internet, showing that it is possible to bring help to these children that don’t have such an easy access to education as we do. »

Adèle Löffler :

« Studying art and communication in Switzerland for three years now, I’ve become crazy about photography and video. The desire to bespeak the social and political problems of our society being so strong to me, it’s in photo and video report that I found my marks. That is why, about a year ago, I started shooting marches and other social movements like the Gilets Jaunes recently.

I’m really looking forward to help Victor using my visual skills and my experience on the field. »

Victor Quilichini :

« From an early age, I’ve been working as an actor in Dubbing but also in front of the camera. In fact, for example, I had the chance to play the son of the Oscar-winner Marion Cotillard, in the movie « From The Land of The Moon », directed by Nicole Garcia. I also lend my voice to Disney France, in partnership with Handicap International, to make a commercial spot with Frank Dubosc.

I also co-founded an organisation called all4trees in order to support reforestation and combating deforestation projects from all around the world. »

The idea is to use our specific cinematic skills to make the most out of this project.

Opening :

Any monetization of the videos will be redistributed to the school. And we can also consider going back there in five years to see what the children have become.

It is important to mention that this project will also allow us to assess the situation, and from this moment we'll be able to think of further actions. More efficient ones.

Allocation of funds

Having a crew to fly all the way to Kathmandu with all the supplies has a cost.

As we're trying to help them as soon as possible, we planned on going there in May or June 2019.

The day after our arrival, we will meet with Bam Dev Sharma and he'll bring us to the school. There, we'll give the supplies, play with the children and teach them what we can, speak to the teachers for the next few days, and write down their problems in order to see how we can help. Every step will be filmed of course.

The fundraising amounts to 4750€ because I've already raised some funds with my city hall.

To manage the budget and ensure a total transparency, I've founded a non-profit organization :

BrightEarth

This organization will allow us to be lawful with all transactions, and who knows, I might use it again for our next project!

If you have any questions, feel free to contact brightearthparis75@gmail.com !
