Tandem is a university club that provides tutoring sessions to middle school Ghanaian students. Our approach is very simple: every Ghanaian student works hand in glove with a unique student from the University of British of Columbia (UBC), on a weekly basis. The tutorial is conducted online using video-calling softwares and devices.

How was Tandem created?

The Tandem initiative is born from the joint work of students from the University of British-Columbia in Vancouver and from Sciences Po in Paris. In early 2014, we wondered how to provide a long term and efficient help to Junior high school students located in a different part of the world.

The only things we had and could transmit were the knowledge and critical thinking we acquired from our education at university. Then, we decided to create Tandem: a one-to-one educational relationship between a student from a world leading university and a Junior high school pupil in need of tutoring.

The Project: the last steps.

We have already started collaborating with a school and an NGO based in Ho, in the Volta region. Our project will start with six students.

We have sent 4 computers and video-calling devices to our contacts on the field. We still need to provide our Ghanaian students an access to the Internet and two extra computers. This task is easily achievable, through 3G subscriptions for instance, but we lack financing. This is where you intervene: donate to the Tandem project, and help the Tandem students succeed.
