<p><strong>"Take the Wax Back"</strong></p> <p> </p> <p>Carine is a young Camerounian woman living in France. Her fight? Reappropriating wax that has been largely taken by the dutch industries.  "Take the Wax Back" definitely is her motto. </p> <p>She discovered Dzogbefa throughout the numerous articles that have been written about our crowdfunding campaign. She was very interested in our small business in Ghana that she interviewed Kenneth to know more about him. In fact, she was really interested in his own personal story and how he managed, throughout his life experiences and his faith, to develop a fashion business.</p> <p> </p> <p><strong>"Take the Wax Back" - "Se réapproprier le pagne africain"</strong></p> <p>Carine est une jeune Camerounaise vivant en France.
<p>It's been already more than a month that you haven't heard from us and quite some things have happened!</p> <p>To begin with, Kenneth has finally come to France where he will expand Dzogbefa, its vibes and its potential. Before leaving Ghana, he was able to fix the water tank too, and the electricity works have also started. One of his batik worker, Joseph, will make sure the works will be completed well. Concerning the water drainage, Jolet met some nice people during the crowdfunding campaign in Lyon. During one of Afrik'Arte's exhibition, she met some people from social and responsible business "Paga Bags" from Burkina. They gave her many advices on how to make an efficient and environmental-friendly water drainage based with plants. Hence, we will make more researches about that and Kenneth and Jolet plan to go back to Ghana next year to build that water drainage. In fact, we are thinking to organize a voluntary and participatory work for the building of the water drainage that will involve people of the community as well as members of Afrik'Arte. </p> <p>So, from now on, Dzogbefa in Ghana is in the hands of its workers. Even if Ken will continue monitoring them, Dzogbefa is now more than ever a business by the people and for the people. At least, Kenneth has been able to leave behind a very nice working place available for those who are motivated to stand for themselves. </p> <p>The team has even expanded since April since a new apprentice has joined the venture. During one of his trip to Tafi Atome where Ken discovered the red-colored dye plant, he met a young 18-year-old girl called Akos. Akos had finished schooling and now wanted to learn something so that she can stand for herself. She seemed very motivated to integrate Dzogbefa and to learn how to sew. This is why Kenneth proposed her to come and join Dzogbefa in Ho where she will be taught sewing by some seamstresses who work closely with Dzogbefa. And there you go! Kenneth made sure she has a roof over her head for the coming year by renting a room close to the workshop.</p> <p>Concerning the batik making, the workers and mainly Joseph who works at Dzogbefa full-time, can really enjoy the water connection and recently have been requested to make uniforms for a radio station's team.</p> <p> </p> <p><img alt="Radio_team-1533043453" src="https://d3v4jsc54141g1.cloudfront.net/uploads/project_image/image/534116/Radio_team-1533043453.jpg"></p> <p> </p> <p>On this side of the mediterranean, Ken has brought plenty of cloths. As he will start to go to some markets here in France, he will mostly focus on how to prepare next year and, obviously, making sure Dzogbefa keeps it up in Ghana. As asked by Afrik'Arte and as part of promoting other artisans from Volta region, he also brought some paintings made by a friend of his, Komla Letsu, whose talents definitely can't be denied ...</p> <p>Exhibitions, sales, shows ... Dzogbefa is proceeding to the second step of its existence.</p> <p>Dzogbefa can really expand its full potential as African fashion and ethnic patterns are trendy nowadays, but also if the business genuinely commits itself in social and ecological values.  </p> <p>We will keep working hard, with lots of love and energy, respect and cooperation in between our people!!  </p> <p> </p> <p>Fixing the poly tank:</p> <p> </p> <p>F<img alt="16-1533043052" src="https://d3v4jsc54141g1.cloudfront.net/uploads/project_image/image/534103/16-1533043052.jpg"> </p> <p> </p> <p><img alt="18-1533043061" src="https://d3v4jsc54141g1.cloudfront.net/uploads/project_image/image/534104/18-1533043061.jpg"></p> <p> </p> <p><img alt="20-1533043081" src="https://d3v4jsc54141g1.cloudfront.net/uploads/project_image/image/534105/20-1533043081.jpg"></p> <p> </p> <p><img alt="24-1533043091" src="https://d3v4jsc54141g1.cloudfront.net/uploads/project_image/image/534106/24-1533043091.jpg"></p> <p> </p> <p><img alt="25-1533043107" src="https://d3v4jsc54141g1.cloudfront.net/uploads/project_image/image/534107/25-1533043107.jpg"></p> <p> </p> <p><img alt="44-1533043225" src="https://d3v4jsc54141g1.cloudfront.net/uploads/project_image/image/534113/44-1533043225.jpg"></p> <p> </p> <p><img alt="45-1533043244" src="https://d3v4jsc54141g1.cloudfront.net/uploads/project_image/image/534115/45-1533043244.jpg"></p> <p> </p> <p> </p> <p>Fixing electricity:</p> <p> </p> <p><img alt="27-1533043126" src="https://d3v4jsc54141g1.cloudfront.net/uploads/project_image/image/534108/27-1533043126.jpg"></p> <p> </p> <p><img alt="26-1533043134" src="https://d3v4jsc54141g1.cloudfront.net/uploads/project_image/image/534109/26-1533043134.jpg"></p> <p> </p> <p><img alt="30-1533043156" src="https://d3v4jsc54141g1.cloudfront.net/uploads/project_image/image/534110/30-1533043156.jpg"></p> <p> </p> <p>Preparing Kenneth's suitcase:</p> <p><img alt="40-1533044157" src="https://d3v4jsc54141g1.cloudfront.net/uploads/project_image/image/534117/40-1533044157.jpg"></p> <p> </p> <p><img alt="34-1533044168" src="https://d3v4jsc54141g1.cloudfront.net/uploads/project_image/image/534118/34-1533044168.jpg"></p> <p><img alt="37-1533044199" src="https://d3v4jsc54141g1.cloudfront.net/uploads/project_image/image/534120/37-1533044199.jpg"></p> <p> </p> <p><img alt="39-1533044215" src="https://d3v4jsc54141g1.cloudfront.net/uploads/project_image/image/534121/39-1533044215.jpg"></p> <p> </p> <p><img alt="36-1533044182" src="https://d3v4jsc54141g1.cloudfront.net/uploads/project_image/image/534119/36-1533044182.jpg"></p> <p> </p> <p>Keep posted! </p> <p> </p> <p> </p> <p> </p> <p> </p>
We started the event with a presentation of Dzogbefa and Afrik'Arte. Then, we talked about our experiences in West-Africa (just to make people travel through our stories ... and so they have a better idea of what it really is like) and we finally ended up with a color- and joyful Dzogbefa fashion show!!</p><p>The happy event also proposed to take part at the tombola! <p><strong><u>Bonus for young committed people !</u></strong></p><p>As <em>Afrik'Arte'</em>s bank account is registered at Crédit Mutuel's bank, it gave Jolet (president of the association) a 50 € bonus that is given to young people who are actively involved in a cause. So nice ! This could always help reach the 5000 € in case the kisskiss pot doesn't reach the full amount on its own.</p><p> </p><p><strong><u>Partnership with <em>Akène d'Avenir</em> !</u></strong></p><p>A new partnership with <em>Akènes d'Avenir</em>, the student association of our school <em>Sup écolidaire.</em> A nice amount of 200 € on <em>Afrik'Arte</em>'s account for our project with Dzogbefa and in return <em>Dzogbefa</em> offers them two nice multi-purpose wallhangings. Here a model !</p><p><img alt="Img_4799-1526896711" src="https://d3v4jsc54141g1.cloudfront.net/uploads/project_image/image/518044/IMG_4799-1526896711.jpg"></p><p> </p><p><u><strong>Magics of A Tree</strong></u></p><p>Nature can surprise us at times … </p><p>Kenneth went to Tafi Atome, a small village at a few hours drive from Ho (capital of the Volta Region) to prepare some batik workshops for the community. The villagers have heard that <em>Dzogbefa</em> is very much interested in any plants or natural product that gives colors. That's why they told Ken about a particular tree in their forest which leaves, when you crush them give red color ...</p><p>Ken went to see that tree by himself and he tested the color on fabric !</p><p><a target="_blank" href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m43mi2tY3fQ">See the video here</a></p><p>The Result :</p><p><img alt="Red-1526897187" src="https://d3v4jsc54141g1.cloudfront.net/uploads/project_image/image/518047/Red-1526897187.jpg"></p><p> </p><p><u><strong>To be followed !!</strong></u></p>
