As you know, the creative process is multi-faceted, and all of the artist’s strokes coexist. This book is an essential component of the artistic work that you have followed for the past 20 years. In the same way, this crowdfunding campaign is a way to finance a part of the project and to involve you in the process and in the genesis of this book.

Une nuit à La Havane est un ouvrage retraçant plus d'une dizaine d'années des errances dessinées du plasticien Thomas Henriot à La Havane.

A Night in Havana is a book that documents over ten years of the peregrinations illustrated by the visual artist, Thomas Henriot, in Havana.

Le projet trouve sa source dans l'œuvre de l'écrivain cubain Reinaldo Arenas, interrogeant les espaces où il a vécu et ceux décrits de manière fantasmée dans les souvenirs nostalgiques de l'écrivain.

Le livre présente une plongée dans les œuvres aux sujets variés : architectures, paysages urbains, parcs, jardins, portraits, autant de prétextes à arpenter La Havane pour vivre le dessin comme une expérience poreuse à ce qui l'entoure, révélant des enjeux sociaux, politiques et poétiques. Les œuvres sont accompagnées de textes écrits par l'artiste, qui contextualisent les dessins sous forme d'une digression, sorte de prose donnant les clefs quant au choix de tel ou tel sujet.

The project has its roots in the work of the Cuban writer, Reinaldo Arenas, reflecting on the places where he lived and those imagined and fantasized in the writer’s nostalgic memories.

The book is an in-depth immersion into works on a variety of topics: architecture, urban landscapes, parks, gardens, portraits - all pretexts for the artist to explore Havana in order to live his art as a symbiotic experience with his surroundings – bringing to light social, political and poetic issues. The works are accompanied by texts written by the artist, which contextualize the drawings in the form of a digression, a sort of prose that gives the keys to the choice of a particular subject.

Toutes les expériences, les rencontres, sont une matière vivante à la création de l'oeuvre.

All of the experiences, the encounters, are living substance for the creation of the book.

A la façon des écrivains voyageurs comme Kerouac ou Bouvier, parfois proche de démarches telles que celles d'Antoine d'Agata, l'artiste donne à voir un itinéraire visuel, sismographe d'un parcours vibratoire, dessiné et écrit, dont le livre est une des finalités essentielles.

In the tradition of travel writers like Jack Kerouac and Nicolas Bouvier, sometimes using approaches similar to those of Antoine d'Agata, the artist takes us on a visual journey, a seismograph of a vibratory odyssey, both illustrated and written, of which the book is one of the essential objectives.
