In Comoros, three players of the national women basketball team and their former coach show strength of character, choose to live and build their future in a country undermined by precarity and exile.

Basketball is a means to escape but also to express themselves freely and to achieve their full potential.

Sometimes, to resist means to stay.

Through the prism of sport, Red card raises the question which agitates any Comorian: to leave or stay in a country in ruins. And if we stay, like our protagonists, how can we continue to believe in it? How do we remain united and continue to play together, when the territory is atomized, and separatism and individualism predominate?

The integrity, the constant resilience that emanates from the lives of these three women is astonishing. They assume the obligations of Muslim women and, in the matriarchal society of Comoros, also provide for a stable home. They combine their roles as active women, mother and athlete, staying out of futile discussions, perpetually in action.

‘Fundi’ (the wise), their former coach, a pillar of Comorian sport, is still a role model, fighting to bring sport back to schools in Comoros, while he is himself in the twilight of his life.

This film is the expression of a slightly crazy bet: to make a film of international stature about this little-known country, Comoros, with the support of only Indian Oceanic production companies.
