Currently, only 65% of the Guinean population have access to water. Every day, the Guinean families have to walk long distances, which is physically demanding, to reach a source of water. In order to improve the situation, since 2012 the NAMUN Group has created a project with the goal of building wells in the regions where water is difficult to access. Five wells have already been created since 2016, but these wells are far from being sufficient. And the current sanitary crisis no longer allows to fund the building of new wells, although the water problem persists and gets out of control.

II Who we are ?

NAMUN Group is a cultural organisation founded in 1996 by N'Faly Kouyaté, an international renowned artist and native of Guinea. He has the conviction that it is possible to "change the world just with a smile". "Everyone can do a little bit" is our leitmotiv that guides us everyday. Our foundation is the culture in general, music and education because culture is a capital industry for sustainable development.

Our mission is to send a positive and constructive message through our activities and projects that help to change our planet accross all the African Continent.

NAMUN Group is organised in different units as follows:

NAMUN Music - management and production

NAMUN School - music and African culture school

NAMUN Event - production and organization of events

We focus on Africa with a particular attention on the Republic of Guinee in West Africa. Our sister organisations on-site are: NAMUN Group Guinée and the Folothesource foundation.

The foundation realises humanitarian projects such as: the construction of wells to bring water in Africa, the support of hospitals, schooling and feeding.

III Where does the project "Music for Water, Music for Life" come from?

N'Faly Kouyaté grew up in Siguiri, a town of Guinea, located far from the capital. A town where most of the inhabitants do not have direct access to clean water. For this purpose, they have to walk many kilometers on foot everyday to find water downhole. Following an accident of his mother on the way, N’Faly decided to take things in hand and launch a project to be able to build wells directly in the village and give access to clean water to all locals.

With his manager Sandra Werner, they launched the project "Music 4 Water, Music 4 Life". This last one aims at bringing water in Africa in places with no access to clean water. Using a musical tour, this project enables each spectator and any other person interested in the project to contribute, and raise money in order to help the largest possible number of persons in Africa missing of vital solutions such as water.

Since 2016, N'Faly and Sandra are doing field work and have already built 5 wells thanks to own funds and partnerships. The project "Music 4 Water, Music 4 Life" is borned within a musical show. The show appeals to the imagination, and is inspired by the African everyday life in which the life intensity is all represented through different sonorities.

IV Guinea and its difficulties accessing water

Everyone does not have access to clean water. Difficulties accessing water are more present in Guinea. Doing laundry, taking a bath, all the everyday life activities are complicated in Guinea and represent an extra effort for the population. 98% of the Guineans are not connected to the water network and are therefore exposed to health risks.

Yet, Guinea is nicknamed the "Water-tower of Africa", because during rainy seasons, up to three cubic meter of water can fall per day. It is also the country in which three great rivers of Africa originate. What is thus the problem? Pollution, lack of infrastructures, overcrowding, political problems, ... There are many problems. It is very difficult to dig wells because the soil of villages is very strong. You should dig a minimum of 45 meters deep to have water because the nearest ground water are not of good quality and contain bacteria.

Each minute, a newborn dies from infection due to the lack of clean water and an impure environment.

This is why we decided to build wells close to school and a health center.

V Project details

The Namun Group team needs 14 days on-site to construct the well . The departure for Guinea is scheduled for July 2021.

These are the different steps of the well construction:

Definition of the drilling point: it is necessary, more than anything, to find the right area to drill. In Guinea, this can be particularly difficult because the soils are highly crusted and contain formations that are very difficult to drill, clayey and unstable. It is therefore essential to be equiped with specific and adapted engines.

Equipment installation

Well drilling and installation of the pre-casing: the drilling is done on a minimum of 45 meters deep in order to find quality water. You should reach confined groundwaters, deeply and naturally protected against bacteria.

Cleaning of the hole

Installation of casing and implementation of the cap with cementation: this is an underpinning technique to prevent the hole from collapsing and ensuring the sustainability of the structure.

Blowing and cleaning the site: the last step of the drill is the cleaning; this step helps to know the water quantity found in the drill.

For the construction of a well, these are the distributions of each item of expenditure that we hope to attain thanks to this crowdfunding campaign.

First stage: Construction of the well (6.800 €)

Construction of the well: 6.000 €

Installation of the infrastructure and organisation of a managing committee for the construction: 300 €

Training of the population and the cells on-site on how to maintain the well: 500 €

+ Platform fees (8% of the pot)

Second stage: Trip of the 2 members of the association (5.520 €)

Administrative fees: 500 €

Transports: flight tickets Bruxelles - Conakry 900 € x 2 persons = 1.800 €

Housing: 50 € per night during 14 days x 2 persons = 1.400 €

Food: 10 € during 14 days x 2 persons = 280 €

Car rental: 500 € per week x 2 = 1000 € - vaccination (yellow fever and hepatitis A): 110 € x 2 persons = 200 € - visas : 160 € x 2 persons = 320 €

We profoundly hope to achieve this goal and even beyond. Indeed, achieving to collect more would help the association to go on the field to organise and supervise the construction of the well.
